| Several weeks ago, a friend of mine was given a DWI on a college campus, and another friend had his pipe confiscated. This isnt about the DWI friend, but the pipe friend. The cop let him walk home, didnt issue any sort of ticket, and my friend never heard anything about it until today. I guess he has to go to a college hearing now. Can this be right? It seems odd that he wasnt ticketed or arrested, but this still comes up. This is in NY by the way, and it was on a SUNY campus.

| Well I think he can get in trouble with the college. Obviously he is not getting in trouble with the law. |

| It surprises me that the college would just "handle it themselves". But I have no idea how laws work with colleges, so I can accept that. |

| This isn't unusual. It's a simple matter of discretion. The cop had 3 choices: 1) Arrest him or charge him with the criminal violation. 2) Not arrest him and let it be handled administratively by the school. 3) Let him go completely. He chose #2. Sure, it would have been nice for #3 to be the choice. But at least he won't have a criminal record and it probably won't interfere with his financial aid etc.

| Well now it depends.... Were you cought by... a) campus police? b) real police? If it was the campus police, they cannot do anything other then take your pot and get you in **** with the school for breaking your agreement as a student. So no worrys about the law, just getting kicked outta school. If it was actual police then you can have all the campus polices wrath, aslo you can include some charges, maybe a ticket. At least that's how it is up in ontario now

Not quite... While it is legal to possess under 30g, campus police here are the real deal. Yup, those older gentlemen in hybrid cars and golf carts do indeed possess similar powers to the local and provincial police. In fact, at most universities, the head of campus police is on the payroll of the local force. Campus police are not just security guards, they can arrest you, although more often than not they'll call younger, active duty officers to take care of the nitty gritty. Fortunately, the only experience I've had with them is a few battery boosts in the winter, and letting me in the buildings at 3 am to hand in papers. ![]()

| Well now it depends.... Were you cought by... a) campus police? b) real police? Geeno answered this for us in his first post: This is in NY by the way, and it was on a SUNY campus. SUNY stands for State University New York. It is a state university and the police are state law enforcement officers. |
