I live outside a small apartment complex and there is also a cop living here.

If I go outside to smoke a single joint, get caught (but eat the joint), can a cop come into my apartment under suspicion that I have more bud? Even if he knows where I live?

Wether it is legal or not is not the only question. Odds are the cop doesn't have a clue of the law and will search if you are within sight of your apartment. To some cops once they see you using a drug you are instantly scum of the earth to them and iti s their goal in life to fuck you over. So i would assume he will try and search everything wether legal or not. I think it is legal because you smoking outside your home could be probable cause. The weed came from somewhere.

Yes maybe, that could be probable cause, but I know that back in the day when I lived in this house on a main street and it is 25 mph through there. I know I used to drink smoke weed and everything and every 5-10 minutes a sheriff will drive by. I know they may have seen me with the pipe to my mouth but they didn't do anything about it. And I was pretty popular with the sheriffs at the time.

im not really a big fan of the police, but i dont think they are that stupid. police have a pretty good understanding of the law...its their job. if police really just did whatever they wanted like that, most of the cases that went to court would just be thrown out.

I am down on cops but come sit in court in my town or a TASC class. You will not have the same opinion after one day. One cop told me he equates pot dealers with murderers and thinks they should spend as much time in jail because of how many lives they ruin. He said a murderer kills one person a drug dealer can ruin hundreds of lives. This is the mindset where I live and the end justifies the means seems to be the rule of thumb. If the cops have to lie to make a case they won't think twice.

I'm sorry, but that is completely false.

I'm no fan of cops (or, rather, *most* cops), but they do know the law. It is their job to know it.

Lying is not the same thing as not having a clue about the law. Sure, some cops might lie, but that's probably because they do know the law and know they couldn't get away with a search (or whatever else) if they were truthful. But honestly, I'm not really sure how much that even happens.

I think some cops do shitty things sometimes, but it's the average person who doesn't know the law who assumes the cops are doing something wrong when they, in fact, aren't.

Actually he does make sense to a certain extent. Cops really don't know the laws. think about it. how many laws are there on the books just in your city alone, then throw in the county, State, Federal. its impossible. Now as for you, you are also right to a certain extent. Cops know alot but more likely the most common abused ones. that's why when your arrested they can come back and add more charges later cause they do have to research other laws to see if they can pin more on you.
