Question Drug sreens for newborns....????

Ok, first I wanna say I am NOT advocating smoking weed during pregnacy. I have smoked for nearly a decade now without stopping, I smoked during my last 2 pregnancies and there has been NO adverse side effects on my other children... in fact both of them are very advanced in school and devolopment.
I am NOT saying it was/is the right thing to do...
Currently I am 8 mo pregnate.
I haven't been a heavy smoker just a few hits off the pipe during the day. Yesterday I was informed by a friend that now they 'screen newborns for drugs' I need to know if this is true? From what I have read they can test the Meconium which can hold evidece of drug use during the last 4-5 mo of pregnancy...
I am freaking out... does Nebraska test, yes or no? if yes, do they test the blood or the meconium? I quit the sec I found out... yesterday... not that it will help alot...
If I do not smoke again during the pregnancy would the thc still be present in the babys blood and if it is though the meconium is there anything I can do at this point???

I think your friend is mistaken.

Here is a good site showing what states screen for what...

I believe (my last child was born 7 years ago though) that the only time they would screen for drug use is if you are suspected of drug use.

Do you think social workers would take your baby away for smoking pot? That sounds a little extreme to me...
Strange story I came across hanging out with my brother in law.. a friend he had over was about 7 months pregnant and was smoking with us. I asked "is this okay for your baby?" she told me "Actually I smoke cigarettes regularly."
"What? Why?"
"My doctor told me to smoke, it will decrease the baby's birth weight. My baby is too big so if I smoke she will get smaller."

I have no idea whether that's credible or not but it's what she said. I thought that was crazy.

Perhaps it doesn't affect developing babies due to the fact that cannabinoids are used heavily by the child's developing brain?

So you'd quit if there was a risk of you getting into trouble. But you won't quit when it's your childs health at stake? Wow, just wow.

If I honestly thought for ONE sec that it would hurt my baby I would quit in a heartbeat! I know many ppl who smoked 1000 xs more than I do that have healthier babies then most. I went FULL term with twins and they were 6'12 and 6'13 NOT under weight in ANY way and healthy as a horse-
so when you have evidence to back up that comment we can talk.

See I didn't think so either... but she told me she has a friend in Kansas that currently has to go through vis-net to see her baby because when he tested pos. for weed (ONLY weed) they removed him from her costody. Now she is jumping trough ALL sorts of hoops just to get him back.
and wow... lol... I am not sure how credible that story is... lol... the females I know that smoked during thier pragnancies thier babies are HUGE....lol... 7'8, 9'3 and 8 something...

Actually, using drugs (including "just" marijuana) during pregnancy CAN potentially negatively affect the child. That it hasn't harmed your other two children (from your perspective..) seems like sheer luck. Personally, it's something I wouldn't want to risk - especially since I work with kids whose parents used drugs during pregnancy and see the correlated results first-hand.

Have you honestly not seen a shred of evidence stating that a realistic possibility of negative cognitive + developmental effects in the child as a result of drug use during pregnancy exists? The claim isn't as far-fetched as you seem to believe...

EDIT: Fortunately for you, I think the only reason the doc would request a tox screen is if you were suspected of using drugs.

I have seen ALOT of propaganda and hype,
I guess I am stuck at the fact we ARE NOT talking about cigs full of MAN made chemicals we are talking about something that is pure from the earth-
KNOWING for a FACT what is in it and not and what is/was used to grow it.
I reseached the HELL out of it, the BIGGEST issue I found was the chemicals and pestisides ecx.. that were used and in this case that is not a question bc I know EXACTLY what did and DID NOT go into it.
