| What can the DNR do legaly? Are they the same as regular police but different? I am asking this question because a friend of mine just got a ticket for fishing w/out a licence y'know basically standard as you can get, but one of the officers thought he'd pat both me and my freind (we are both 18 BTW and I wasn't fishing at all) AND his 13 year old brother who was fishing. he said he wanted to check for "fish hooks" make sure we didn't have any in our pockets. we weren't stoned and we had nothing on us at the time. Is this legal? |

| In my state (and many others), they have the same powers as any police officer. Where our Fish and Game guys are different is that they have somewhat broader powers of search. In other words, they can make you open your trunk to see if you have a illegally killed animal and if they see dope, they can arrest you for it. Yes, they can pat you down. While most cops are to be looking for weapons, because of the laws that they enforce, they are looking for things like fish hooks. From what you've told here, everything sounded kosher.

| ok, that's kinna what I thought, but I'd thought i'd ask because police around here really have a problem with marijuana being in their "happy little community", and seeing as me & my friends are the only users around, they don't like us to much (even though we never smoke in public or sell). thanks for answering |

| It depends if they are a CO ( conservation officer) or simply a DNR field agent- only the CO, who has a badge and a gun, has police power.. If it was a field agent they were probably looking for some free weed. S2 |
