| I was locked up at a juvenile center for a week due to minor consumption. It was terrible. I've never been in trouble with the law. I'm 16 years old. I was released this past Tuesday and put on probation for 6 months. It tears me apart knowing I won't be able to smoke anymore The day after I got home, I decided I may as well smoke my supply while I can. I was already dirty when they drug tested me, so I figured it wouldn't matter considering I have a court date coming up within a couple of weeks. I just can't believe I have to stop smoking for 6 months... I don't know how i'm gonna do it. It's bullshit. I sure as hell am not risking getting sent back to that juvenile center. So pretty much I'm screwed and won't be able to smoke for half a year... please give me advise. help me through this... ![]() |

| Damn man I feel for you. I was on probation for 3 months when I was 16, and it was hell considering I went from smoking every single day to not smoking at all. If you only get drug tested once a month, you can smoke the day of your test (after you pass) and maybe the next day after your test. You should still come up clean next month if your in decent shape and arnt to overweight. This might sound off topic (but this is to help a friend) but when I was on probation one of the only things that kept me from going crazy was ciggs. Now I dont like ciggs that much at all, but if you have the urge to smoke something they will help take your mind off it a little bit and relax you a bit. Now im not saying start a whole other addiction, cause it honestly takes over a year or 2 to get addicted to ciggs, anyone who smokes could tell you that. The first 3 days of being sober are the hardest though man, you'll probably feel depressed, have a loss of appetite, and probably have some trouble sleeping at night. I had to use over the counter sleeping pills to put me to bed at night, cause even last night I pulled an all nighter from not smoking yesterday. The shits hard to deal with but you'll get through it I promise! I hope they treated you okay in that place, but believe it or not its better than being in a prison. Your young and im sure if you could go back a few weeks you would've made it so this would've never happened, and I completely feel you there I would've changed it if I could. But it is what it is you know....but feel free to chat with all of us on the forum if you're ever feeling down. Take care my friend :P |

However, saying that it takes a year or two to get addicted to ciggs is absolutely false. I know a kid who started smoking when he got to Penn State because he had so much freedom. He used to smoke ciggs socially on break at work, but that was it. It took him less than a month to get addicted to the point he was smoking a pack a day, because he would smoke anytime he was walking to and from classes. MetallicaFan, you seem to have a problem with generalizing things. Just because something is true in one situation doesn't make it true for all situations. For example, just because one cop is dumb doesn't mean all cops are dumb, and just because you might not get addicted to ciggs until 1 to 2 years of smoking doesn't mean it would take him that long. I'm sure it has a lot to do with frequency of smoking, will power, your body, etc.

| You CAN be addicted to marijuana, just like you can become addicted to caffeine. Marijuana is not physically addictive, but it is definitely psychologically addicting. Anyone who says otherwise is simply in denial. It's not very addicting, and the addiction is easy to overcome, but it IS addicting. |

I believe MJ isn't addictive, I never have been. I think the only people who can't quit are people that aren't strong, and that don't even try.

I have stopped smoking several times, many of the times I would chill with my friends while they were smoking and not be tempted because I knew I couldn't. In fact, I'm currently refraining from use right now. But that doesn't mean it isn't addicting, because it is. It's less addicting than caffeine, but it's still addicting.

| I agree that it's addicting, but you CAN overcome the addiction. ANYWAY, abby, 6 months really aint that long. Before you know it, it will go by faster than a blink of an eye. I was on probation for a year once. My P-O was cool tho, she would let me know if a piss test was coming up. Or, she would ask if I had done any drugs/alcohol since the last visit. If I was to say 'yes' she would say, 'well, you got a test coming up soon, so you better be clean'. I doubt there are many p-o's out there that are cool like that, but if yours isn't one of those people, then just stay str8. They may come do a suprize home visit, too, so be ready for that. Usually the severity of why you are on probation and any habitual offenses you have come into play on how strict your p-o will be. If your record is clean, and the first couple months you are str8 with him/her, then you may not even have to check in for a couple months later. But ALWAYS expect a piss test with every visit. If you absolutly can't stay away from the green, then, if you can, invest in some type of Whizzonator piss bag or something and wear that to your visits. That's what I did anyway. After the first couple months of being a good little boy, she didn't want to see me for 3 months at a time! |
