Well . . . that sucks. So if the email providers can just read anything you send for whatever reason, can they also take information they find and provide it to police?

If I email JTP and say "Hey, send me an ounce of that fine SC Bud!" and some nerd at the email providing company sees it can he turn me in?

It is sometimes scary when you think of the monitoring potential. Everyone just thinks about the government, but forgets about the private sectors ability.

I personally detest Kazaa. I've heard too many stories of people hacking into your computer via the site and distributing viruses or scanning your hard drive. I stay away from P2P sites as much as possible. I keep my butt covered by installing security and privacy software (Norton Internet Security) and using a router as a main firewall. My settings are so high that it gets to be a real pain in the rear setting permissions for every single thing that comes through, but it's piece of mind.
