| I was wondering, does the bill of rights apply to somebody under 18? My mom used to always tell me that people under 18 have no real rights (she always said it as a sort of a joke), but still do I have the same rights as somebody who just turned 18 or 21? Do I have the right of free speech? And then theres if a cop tries to search my car or some other legal thing if I got caught (can't really think of much right now but ill remember sometime). Would I be treated equally?

| It just means that people under 18 have to argue louder and harder to have their rights respected. |

| Hmm, the way I understood it was that your rights will be respected if you argue loud enough when you are under 18, but you really have no real rights until you are 18+. Don't worry, when you are 18+, you can make your own decisions legally and therefore will have all the rights to you except for the final few that come when you are 21, like drinking and firearms ownership. |

| It applies, but it doesn't. For instance, the second amendment right to keep and bear arms doesn't really apply, since laws prohibit people under 18 from purchasing a firearm. Your 4th amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure apply, but not in school. The same with your first amendment rights for free speech, freedom of religion, frredom of assembly and freedom of the press. Again, not in school. So, there are really greater restrictions on minors rights than on adults.

| That really pisses me off. Inalienable rights? Doesn't that specificly mean can't be takin away under any circumstance? My dictionary shows the definition to be "incapable of being alienated, surrendered, or transferred". |

| yes, but many generations of human experience has taught us that teenagers are often ill equiped to many sound decisions about their rights. Often they choose to abuse them at their and others expense. |
