| ok, Im at the store tonight with my wife. i am 22 my wife is 20. i get a few things, and i decide that i want a beer. So i go and get just one can of Fosters. I tell my wife to just wait outside because everyone in line gets carded for any alcohol. While she is out there, a cop comes up to her (he is patroling the store) and asks her if she is with "the man inside buying beer." she says "yes, but he is my husband and he is only buying one beer." He then tells her he can and will give her a ticket next time she is waiting outside while i am buying beer. Ok, for one thing, I understand that supermarkets have rules saying if there is a minor they wont sell alcohol. But a cop, a law enforcer in this situation has no ground to give a ticket for this right? I mean, say for example my wife went to circle k to get a soda while i was in the store. if we met up to walk home, and a cop stopped and said "you have a beer." I would say "and?" I mean, im with my wife whom i have a morgage with..... its not like im with minors who dont know me. its my freaking family, and i have one freaking beer. since she is waiting outside the store for me, does this make the situation different? Is there anything illegal about this? If she accually got a ticket, what would it be for? for being with her husband who has an unopened beer in a bag in his hand? i couldnt see a cop even showing up in court to fight a ticket like that. could he argue that i was buying for a minor? i mean, a bottle of jack is one thing... anyhow... enough rambling about it. what do you legal freaks think about this? p.s. sorry if this constitutes as off topic. this just really bothered me tonight. |

| Well, this is really off-topic ... no marijuana involved. Many states have strict "blue-laws" meaning your underage wife can get ticketed for hanging around a liquor store. This goes for bars and other alcohol establishments. So, don't get angry with the heat; leagally, you could get ticketed for buying beer with her (Jack, beer, whatever... it's all alcohol so don't get caught up in the distinction). I wouldn't worry about it, though. I doubt most of these types of laws are strictly enforced. The cop's warning was probably just that. Hey, guess what? Once she turns 21, you won't have this problem ever again. In the meantime, might want to keep the wife away from the booze. |

| Since this involves a drug other than marijuana, it's off topic.
