Default Completed probation. Is it a conviction?

I have completed my 1 year probation and am happy to be free to resume life! It was rough but I made it. I have a questions though:

Although I completed probation and paid fines, on my record is it considered a conviction? In court I pleaded no contest and got 1 year probation.

Thanks.

Default Good News!

I am unsure what state you live in, but in California we have Penal Code Section 1203.4 which effectively sets aside the guilty verdict and eliminates the need to report the conviction for employment and most other circumstances. You would be required to report it when applying for a State Professional License - such as Doctor, Building Contractor or Paramedic. You may also be charged with a prior if you are arrested for the same crime again.

Check with the Clerk of the Court for the form and fee, it is basically automatic unless the District Attorney opposses it. Here it is $25, and never again do you need to speak of the matter.

You need to check with your clerk of courts about your specific case. Your plea isn;t the most important thing. The bigger issue is whether the court withheld adjudication or not.
