Preface: I'm not young. In the past recent years, when I wanted to buy marijuana, I would go to Amsterdam for a couple weeks and problem solved. Now that's nice and I enjoy Europe, but it's getting expensive. Is it illegal to ask around about purchasing small quanities of pot. As stupid as this sounds I'm not sure how to place a real dealer at ease that I'm not going to bust them and trust an almost 50 year old professional looking man to sell to.

Yes, it is my understanding that the act of solicitation is in fact illegal. If you are attempting to purchase an illegal item, that in itself is a crime.

Yes plainsman is right, i go around dt santa cruz asking hippies, and one guy warned me about undercovers and told me its illegal to ask, so if your looking around ask people to smoke not to sell...

thats how they do undercover stings, they wait till you ask them for the drugs and then bust you, so i would say its definately illegal.

Conspiracy requires that 2 or more people agree to perform an illegal act, then take at least one overt step towards doing it.

Asking is soliciting, but not conspiracy at that point.
