How is it legal for shops to sell bongs, pipes, and rolling papers? Do they really advertise people hitting a bong filled with tobacco? im just confused

Alot of shops have rules against selling to anyone who verbalizes or uses language that denotes the customer will be using it for illegal purposes.

Other businesses get around it by claiming that it is simply art.

Either way it depends on where you are. Some places can operate without any scrutiny while others will be set up and busted on a monthly basis.

Paraphernalia laws are very broad & vague. So it is possible for almost any shop to get busted. Some states and counties crack down harder than others.

They get away with it because they maintain the illusion that the devices are going to be used for smoking something legal. Some of the states that have paraphernalia laws specifically mention bongs, as do the federal laws. In that case, the laws are simply not being enforced.

Pipes and papers are used with tobacco, so they're not paraphernalia unless they can be associated with illegal substances. If there is marijuana residue or they're found together with weed the paraphernalia laws can be invoked.

When I was growing up you couldn't stop in a record store without seeing bongs, clips, pipes, ect. If you find such a place today, which I doubt , don't tell the world or it will dissappear. Word of mouth will travel to the local LEO's and it will be closed.

I am originally from central Indiana, now living in central Florida. There is a record store in Indiana called Karma. It is the biggest chain of local record stores on Indiana, selling music, concert tickets, etc, and of course all the things you need to smoke. They have been in business as long as I can remember. (I am 38) Karma has never been targeted for busts because they have these things, ever. In fact, all the people I know either go there to get things, or the flea market. Not many head shops that I know of. Here in central Florida, there are head shops, but I have never seen a record store that was similar to Karma. Go figure....

It seems to vary a lot with the level of local law enforcement. I live in Ohio and haven't seen a headshop here in twenty years. I travel frequently to the Denver area and they're all over the place. These places stay in business not because the LEOs don't know they're there but because busting them is too much of a hassle in court.

its ultimatly just a peice of glass and u cant smoke the glass itsself. and if your worried about your behaviour around the guy in the store then pretend its a gift or something

I live around norwich in ct there are 2 head shops "blunt kings" and "Far side"
however i have found that the best stuff is found at places that do not advertise it theres this one airbrush studio i know of that does shirts and what not but if u go in there with a frequint customer of his he will show you his bongs that he keeps in the back witch you cant beet for the price

Does anyone know the extent of paraphanalia laws in Canada. I've read the U.S. laws and they seem pretty scary, I'm wondering what the deal is in Canada. I know that in my city's the Cannabis culture shops advertise openly that their products are for smoking pot, there's no hush hush don't ask don't tell thing happening. Infact one of the headshops has a cafe in the back. It's basicaly a bring your own pot cannabis cafe. It's pretty chill, and you could probably go there without weed and still get high. Every time I've been there someones smoked me in on their session (I smoked them too). Once I went and these college students just got a 4 foot glass bong with an art glass bowl. I asked them if I could try a hit off it and the PACKED a bowl. When I hit it the dude just held the lighter to it so a burned the entire bowl in one hit.
Sorry I'm stoned I may have just rambled off there.

What part of Ohio do you live?

I know two headshops in my area that have been open for a while now. I live in SW Ohio.
