Default Jet lighters on planes?

Do they let you carry jet lighters on planes, I know they let you carry 2 normal lighters, or one, but what's the deal on jet lighters. Are they considered more dangerouse because of their more intense flame (fly to cuba or I'll burn you good)?

A ruling came down last week that there are to be no lighters on planes. Since you're not allowed to pack them in your luggage either you'll have to buy one at your destination.

It was probably the guys who hijacked the planes with box-cutters. Or the guy who was caught trying to ignite a shoe-bomb. Just a guess.

I was pissed when I first heard about this, but really, its a minor inconvenience IMO. Just remember to leave the Zippo, or any lighter worth more than a dollar, at home. Now, if this came down last year, at the height of my pack a day + habit, I probably would have been a little more pissed....

Yup, all lighters are now banned from airlines. Even being a heavy smoker, I dont see this as a huge inconvience. i mean, matches are still allowed, so its not like anyone HAS to go flameless. Actually, I'm suprised its taken them this long to ban lighters....especially after reading somepleace on the net how to modify lighters to create a significant explosion. If it keeps my plane in the air while I'm in it, I dont have any problem sacrificing my right to carry a lighter on a plane. As muc as people bi$ch about airport/airplane security, I ake at least a small bit of comfort in knowing that efforts are being made to ensure my safety. I feel as strongly as anyone about the violation of people's rights and whatnot, but we've seen what happens when security isnt up to par.....and frankly, i'm willing to ditch my Bic to prevent that from happening again.

Unless you get searched, there's no way in the world they could know you have one in your pocket. They don't set the metal detectors off.

And if you do get searched, they'll simply confiscate it. $0.89 down the drain, oh well.

There is metal in lighters, and they do set off the magnometers.

So, you travel much, do you? When you go through airport security screening, the TSA has little sense of humor. An attempt to carry a lighter, when you have been told it is illegal, will get you trouble. If you are lucky, the local authority interviews you and you only miss your flight and have to pay for another one. If you are not lucky, you might sit in a room for several hours waiting for some rookie FBI agent to drive down to the airport and interview you. Either way you will find your luggage is pulled from the plane and searched, and chances are it will not make it to your destination the same day you do.

There is a concept in airport security screening that drives the TSA - statistics. If they can find your lighter, your weed, or your pipe; they can document that they are doing their job looking for weapons and explosives.

I've never had a lighter set one off.

But I guess it is better to be safe than sorry.

That sucks. I went to Germany and bought some sweet as lighters. I had 4 let lighters in my caryon. The only problem they were bundled together by my cd player so security was unsure. I took them out and they were like ok.

But that was 4 years ago. I was wondering if something recent happened for them to do this. But anyway, last week I traveled Vancouver - Salt Lake City - Albuquerque and had a lighter or two in my coat pocket that went through the xray and they didnt say anything. I also had at least one lighter in each of my 2 carryons and each of my 2 checked baggage and had no problems with any of it.

And Bart - they're not going to go through all of that if you just have a lighter. They'll take it away and send you on your way. Especially since it's not common knowledge you can't have lighters, and especially since it's a new rule. I dont know what parallel universe you're thinking of. That's way too much hassle for everyone involved for someone who just has a lighter. It's not like that's suspicious behaviour.
