The problem here is that no one hangs with gang members but other gang members. "Tagging" is a central feature of their subculture. To them, what they do is cool and anyone outside the group is not. I'm not sure where anyone would have any leverage.

You do realize I'm not talking about only gang members, graffitti "artists" or even teen-angers, don't you? I'm talking about people who do more harm to your efforts than good.

I dont know any regular potheads that go around tagging. Tagging/Graffiti is done by gangs. Gangs and their anti-authority, rebel nature predispose them to drug use. This includes marijuana.

Why not tag up with other drug refrences, why only marijuana?

I think the reason why marijuana is so prevelent in these tags is because it is accepted in their and other cultures, its "cool". However smoking crack or meth, being a heroin addict or even an alcoholic is not respectable. It might be cool to sell these things but not to use them. These things tend to lead to images of weakness. But smoking marijuana is accepted, and in gang culture respected.

So thats why you see so many marijuana refrences. Not because potheads are going nuts with paintcans but because of what is accepted as the gang subculture.

That we should tell the gang members that we dont know not to spraypaint?

Should I just walk up to a bunch of crips and be like.... Yo what up man, could you guys chill with the weed tagging its really making us look bad. I know you sell marijuana and thus are making money off of it being illegal. But please stop spraypainting marijuana refrences it makes the legalization effort look bad. Thanks guys.....

I thought I was pretty clear here:

You do realize I'm not talking about only gang members, graffitti "artists" or even teen-angers, don't you? I'm talking about people who do more harm to your efforts than good.

What part of that really doens't make sense? What part makes you think I'm only talking about gang members etc, particularly when I clearly say I'm not?

So what do you want us to do? How can we police our peers?!?! You have already stated that its younger kids that do it. Should we go into schools, tell our younger brothers not to spraypaint marijuana leaves cause marijuana wont become legal? Will they care or understand? Or should we go onto a graffiti website and tell them not to tag with marijuana stuff cause its cramping our steez?

It just really doesnt make sense. Thats the problem. This isnt an issue in the marijuana community. This is an issue of society, pot just got mixed up in it.

Sorry, dont have to get all hot and bothered, didnt mean to frustrate you.

Default What are other activities we should police among our peers?

NS -

Your example was tagging, so it's natural that people will respond to what you say, not what you mean. If you want to talk about other activities that people do that discourage legalization, why don't you enumerate them?

My peers, educated people in their mid-fifties, are not doing much that I know of to embarrass the legalization effort.
