Ok, if you read my other thread you already know that I was busted a few weeks ago for canabis paraphernalia. Today I was contacted by a local police officer, whom I know, and he told me that I can have this charge wiped clean if I "work with the police". I know he wants me to play the name game, which I would NEVER consider but he gave me a week or so to think about it. Anyway I was talking to my friend, let's call him Mr. X, about the whole deal. He said that he knows a guy that deals hard stuff to minors. Now I don't know this guy, but Mr. X has been to his house and witnessed this going on, and he also got Mr. X's younger sister hooked on coke. I just wanna know what others would do if they were put in my shoes.

You can't really say anything to the cops about this guy without revealing Mr X to the cops and even so, I doubt the cops could accept "this guy I know says he saw" as anything worth pursuing, let alone enough to get you off this paraphernalia charge. Stick with your initial reaction of not playing along with it. There are other ways to get the charge wiped, like probation or community service.

Yeah, you're both right, like I said I've never been in this position before, I just needed a second opinion. I guess I'll try to find a good lawyer to represent me in court.

Do you really think you need a lawyer just for a simple paraphernalia citation? I recently got cited for possession and paraphernalia and when I talked to a lawyer (didnt hire him, just talked to for advice), he said I could even just plead guilty by mail and I'd get mailed my ~$100 fine and be done with it. Or if I go to court I could try to get my record expunged with probation and/or community service. But it's not serious enough to need to hire a lawyer. Then again, I just checked norml's site on state by state laws (I see you're in IL): http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4535 and damn, the punishment's pretty steep compared to NM, where I am: http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?wtm_view=&Group_ID=4553 But still, I'd suggest just getting advice from a lawyer before deciding to hire one. (My story in case you care)

I would feel a whole lot better if I could keep this off my record. I'll talk to a lawyer first and decide then if I need one. My cousin who got the DUI was charged with possesion of paraphernalia AND canabis a few years ago hired a lawyer who got the charges dropped and changed to a littering fine. (Don't ask me how)

| Working with the cops is a bad idea unless you're facing multiple felonies or something. It gets you deeper into ****, period. Take your misdemeanor charge, and don't risk anything worse. EDIT-When I was busted a few years back I was faced with the same request from the cops, and my lawyer told me to either turn it down or make some **** up. I ended up giving the cops a fake name of a dealer, then I got my deal worked out before the cops checked it out and figured out my information was bunk. But I was dealing through a lawyer with the district attorney, and it would have gone alot worse had I been dealing by myself directly with the cops.

I think I'd turn down the offer before I'd B.S. the police.

dont bs the police, if they find out you did, you will get even more screwed, and the judge will then look at your misdemeanor charge and make it worse then it woulda been, then you would also be sentenced for false information to the cops... whatever that law is called... that would suck... jfind the lawyer your cousin got, and do the same ![]()
