| Just ran across a link to this this message on another board, looked important enough to let you guys know. I'll quote the first few paragraphs here, rest of the article from Cannabis Culture Magazine at http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4483.html Warning: "Emery Seeds" DEA TRAP - UPDATED by Jodie Giesz-Ramsay (11 Aug, 2005) Emery Seeds is out of business. And the fall-out may be devastating on many levels. Emery Seeds has been raided by the DEA. YOU MAY BE IN DANGER. PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION. Keep up-to-date with discussion on this topic at this thread on the CC Forums. Information Updated August 12th, 2005 UPDATE: THIS IS VITALLY IMPORTANT. When seeds were sent out in June, they took unusually long to get to people's places. Quite a lot of seed orders -- we're talking 200-300 letters here -- were being intercepted somehow, and held up. What we believe is that the addresses on incoming mail sent to us were matched up with outgoing mail that had our return address. Those outgoing letters were sent, and held up. Even if your seed order mail was opened, that is not enough to incriminate you for sending that letter. Nothing in our outgoing orders implies that you asked for when we're sending. Prosecution will require that those people who get the scam letter from the DEA incriminate themselves by agreeing that they wish to receive seeds, and through acknowldging the letter, prove that they asked for and paid for seeds. It is our belief that emails sent to emeryseeds.com were insecure, and that outbound mail in June seems to have been intercepted and the information is being used to set up American and Canadian growers for raids and prosecution. If you thought there was an unusually long delay in receiving any recent orders from the time you were aware it was sent, then it is very likely you are in danger, and should take appropriate action. This is a regrettable discovery, and means the DEA and RCMP and perhaps other agencies are coordinating a massive round-up of both Canadians and Americans in a considerable escalation of the Drug War. We will give you more information as it is cooberated. We would like to express concern for all American and Canadian citizens. We have received many questions from people who have received messages appearing to be from Marc Emery Direct. These are FAKE and DANGEROUS. DO NOT RESPOND! If you received this same type of letter shown, YOU MAY BE IN DANGER. The Government may be trying to get you to "admit" through responding that you ordered seeds. We have NOT sent out any information to our customers, as we do not retain their records. BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS. We would warn any large-scale growers to IMMEDIATELY CEASE YOUR OPERATION. DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION TO THIS GROUP! WE BELIEVE IT IS DEA TRYING TO DO A MASSIVE BUST ON GROWERS. [Continued at http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4483.html]

| Yeah, apparently Marc Emery isn't enough for them. Especially since we gave him up so easily! ![]() Seriously though, they don't know it's the D.E.A., that's just a theory. A good one though.

| True that, that was just the headline on the article so that's the one I used. They mention themselves somewhere in it that they suspect it and give some reasons, but all they can prove is it's not them. That's worth knowing in any case. If it's not law enforcement, maybe some scammer will get busted and at least something good will come of it. ![]() |

| This CRAP just had to happen! I mean...what a big waste of tax money to start goin after some closet growers for the most part! Its shiit like this that only shows that there are a LOT of people who would be out of a job if the god damn drug war would just end! I suppose a whole bunch of other seedbank companies are on the hitlist next too. Hope a lot of growers have managed to allow some plants to pollenate and get their own seed stash going.....as well as a lot of clones going too. Probabaly be a serious shortage on seeds and strain varieties in the long run if they manage to start shutting down more seed companys. DON'T THEY SEE the FUTILITY in all their pathetic efforts? They just don't care.....as long as they always have a job and a paycheck....courtesy of the taxpayers.

| According to Niteshift, police resources would just be put somewhere else. I hope he's right. I would hate to see a mass layoff of law enforcement, they're usually very good people. This was inevitable though, if it indeed was the D.E.A. Think that either; a)They would be satisfied with the only major drug threat in Canada or b)Wouldn't take advantage of having the names of a bunch of people and their addresses that most likely are growing? Otherwise, they could be using the seeds to sprinkle on their salads. What? I like cannasalad! Peace :spark: |

| I think they're just scared that too many americans will want to move to canada when they eventually legalize cannabis for personal recreational use. ![]() |

| Well if the DEA is sending out spoofed emails THIS IS ILLEGAL, because a domain name isn't property of the registrants (it is liscensed to them) it would be unlawful to seize it. |

It's hard to say that what they're doing is illegal, since apparently the law doesn't always apply to law enforcement when it's in the interests 'of society'.

One could argue that they need these powers to enforce laws. That they need to be able to, for instance, smoke crack in a sting to prove that they're not cops. But one could also argue that an administration like the D.E.A. shouldn't be above society. Especially to maintain a "war" that's extremely harmful to society.
