dude123456 you just learned a few valuable life lessons in less than probably 15 minutes, and all it cost you was a few pints of sweat and probably half a pint of p**s, lol... 1 - Police Officers are human, and like everyone else, try to work smarter, not harder. I speak with confidence that if the officer was a rookie, or someone that was having a REALLY bad day, your story would have ended on a sadder note for you. 2 - Honesty does pay off. You didn't cop an attitude, you didn't try to pull the "Wha wha what did I do?" on him, and even though you tossed your stuff, and he saw it, he didnt give you any really tough s**t over it. You satisfied his curiosity by having ID (VERY important), when he patted you down, you didn't have anything that could considered a weapon. You cooperated, and it paid big dividends for you. I suggest lighting a candle at the local parish, and definatly a lottery ticket, you got the touch. BTW standing in front of the camera was for HIS safety and yours. Its to get a video log of you and your pal in case you guys went nuts on him and they would have a way of tracking you down later. 3 - Smoking in public, in front of work, in the daytime, and under 21 is a big no no NO...Did i say NO yet? Dont do it, ever, in any part. Not worth it, as you can see. That being said, you decided to cut back/quit. Its a good decision for you, then do it, and I think a smart guy like yourself will do just fine. I'm glad to see it all turned out well for you, and good luck in your future!

so basically if it hadn't gone as well as it did, then the case could have held up, and i would have a drug charge. so i was extremely lucky. it's funny, i watched all my friends get busted because they got cocky. they stopped smoking at a safe location and started doing it while driving or parked somewhere, and they all got caught. looking back, i can't believe that i was that stupid to roll it up outside of work. i can't get over how lucky i was though. i definitely agree that honesty is the best policy. i think that if we had given the cop the runaround or lied about anything he would have been able to pick it up since we were so nervous. everyone always says don't talk to the cops, but maybe(?) if it's not a whole lot, being honest is a better idea. who knows. definitely gonna quit, but i'm not looking forward to the next two weeks. work every day for the next 14 days, school every day except weekend, and no green. oh well.

I asked your age because we have very few young men here whom have such an attitude toward LEO's and their experiences are seemingly always negative. I would suggest you take a look at www.normal.org and see for yourself what the financial consequence of your "drug charge" would have been; and perhaps contribute something similar toward the legalization of MJ. Lighting a candle, praying to Allah or buying a lottery ticket are all good, but to make MJ legal in the future, we are going to need money. | |

In my story i wrote of the state cops finding a bowl on my friends, forgot to mention that the cops then asked where they had the pot, they had it hidden somewhere and just admitted to the cops where it was. It shows that cooperation does help, but what also helps is if the cops had a good day. I got caught with alcohol one year when i was under age, said i didn't have any drugs or alcohol in my car when asked, he found the beers, then just said i wasn't old enough to have them, then from there when he was done watching me dump all my beers out and let me go, he just said i don't like being lied to, i work on honesty, next time i ask, just admit it and we'll work somethin out. They were sticking out a little from where i hid them so it was considered plain view. Some cops might say that line anyway and still arrest you, but chances are they will probably find what they want to anyway if they are going to search your car and for going through the trouble of doing it they aren't going to be too happy.

King Cola, you are absolutely right. Read a few of the many posts by NiteShift and my friend PhuzzyOne and their perspective is similar (they are LEO's whom I very much respect!) Show the man some respect and chances are he will return the favor. Even when he has to write you up, he will be very kind. Remember the thread "Running from the Cops"? Several young men your age were advocating taking a simple police contact to a foot chase just to mess with the Cops. Over a dime bag of weed, these nitwits were saying it was worth running and risking lives. I hope your voice, and Dude's, will sound off when such fools try to advocate being an asshat. We old farts try to say it, but you young men send the message loud and clear.l The wise Troublemaker42 would post right here that if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. He infer's responsibility for one's own behavior, which is what the LEO is going to notice. TM's story is one of the worst, loosing a career and he was nice to the LEO's. But he stands up and takes responsibility for his actions which is the maturity you demonstrate.

i think taking responsibility for one's actions is extremely important, and unfortunately, very rare. everyone always tries to blame someone else for what they've done. so perhaps taking responsibility and being honest is the right idea. i've heard all the stories about not letting them search you and not answering questions, etc. but my dad, who rode around with the sherrif's department for 6 months when he was considering joining the force, said that the officers cut breaks to people more often when they were honest. sometimes it's weird to think that a cop enforces laws because they're his job. so maybe they don't always agree with them, and they'll help you out. i know at my job, if people give me a hard time, i try my best to give it right back. but when a customer is friendly and nice, i try to help them out. so the same principle should apply. weird idea, but it's true. another story, kinda interesting: i had a couple plants when i had my own place in Tampa. when i moved back, i gave them to a couple friends who had their own place. two weeks after i gave the plants to them, cops raided their apartment. they had a warrant to search the apartment for a girl that used to live there. so the cops came in, saw the girl didn't live there, BUT they saw a lot of paraphanalia and saw the lights for the plants on (did i mention it was at 6:00am?). so the cops backed out, told the kids to hide EVERYTHING, came back in and made sure the girl wasn't there, and left. my friends got rid of the plants (they weren't real big anyway, maybe 18" and nowhere near flowering) and as of now, two months later, the cops haven't been back. but the point of the story: my friends told them there was stuff in the apartment before they came in and then let them in without getting in the way for a preliminary search, and the cops cut them a break. interesting? it's true. every other instance where i've had friends get caught, it was because they were cocky and unsafe, and gave the officers a hard time. people that have lied about it have been arrested in every single instance that i know of among my friends. so the moral of my story and the story of my friends: be honest, and then be thankful.
