Default Legalization and Religion

This might make a few people mad who've been under the eye of the law, but thinking about it, legalization really favors protecting police officers. How many cops die busting drug junkies who are worthless to begin with? I really feel like it protects everyone in the system, even society. Growing up with regulated drugs, you just don't give a damn. You see people getting high and wasted, and as you get older, you almost regaurd it as stupid to do. Kids now have no clue what to believe on drugs, so of course curiousity leads to trying them. I just wish we could all get along, and leave eachother alone. I really want the law to subside a bit, focus on more criminal issues, so maybe we can all come together, especially religiously as I feel that a society bound on religious morals (minus fanatic murderers) is really a step for us in the right direction. I want my main worries to be not what I can get away with, but how I can connect with my lord. I want society to be an overwhelming religion bound place, where relationships are more coveted than making money, and life AFTER death becomes your biggest concern. You have 80 years to stick it out here, but the afterlife becomes your most important concern.

Whose religion? Yours or mine?

I think human beings can be moral, ethical, and compassionate without positing supernatural beings who will punish/reward us for our behavior.

You've hit a nerve. Being a non-Christian, it annoys the hell out of me that people think that being religious will somehow make for a better society. The dicks who run this country are purportedly religious, but they certainly fall short in terms of being the kind of people I'd want to be my neighbors. Religion is often an excuse for the ego-trip of "God's on my side".

Life after death is the primary concern of the current regime. That's why they don't give a damn about this Earth and the welfare of its people. I thank the gods, the djinn, and the fairies for the separation of Church and State. I only wish our government would honor it.

Default Take 2 on Religion-Legalization

It is known that the ancient Jewish Tribes used Mushrooms as a scrament, and as we all know, the Aztecs, Incas, American Indians, Egyptians.... all used pyscotropic drugs in their Religious ceremonies to reach a better understanding and communicate with their GOD. Obviously the creator put these natural substances here for a reason. There is a fresco in a church in France that was done in 1643, that shows Christ at the last supper, sitting in front of a bowl of mushrooms.....

If there is a Creator, he might have put these things here for a purpose. I don't know how anyone could purport to know what it is. Maybe it's to test our resolve in keeping our minds focused on Him?

Many religious people think that alcohol and other intoxicants were put here by Satan to distract us from our spiritual duties. Many religions denounce any form of intoxication.

Right Buzzby, by using the "Creator" moniker, I went a tad far.... let's assume that all of the intoxicants to the human brain, are what they really are in a way, poisons to the brain... but, makes ya wonder why horses use to seek out rotten apples to get a buzz, etc.... Reminds me of Church Lady...

Who do you suppose made you that way . . mmmm... SATAN....

I use to love Dana Carvey doing that bit.....

I study Mythology, and followed Joseph Campbell, and have read all his books. He points out all dietys (can't spell...you know what I mean) in ancient time, used a mind altering substance to communicate with their spirit world....

We'll never know I guess.

If someone doesn't believe in the supernatural it leaves a discussion open for debate. If i don't believe in god i have no problem with death, thats it you die, survival of the fitest. Therefore, i dont care about the people who died in 9/11 or in wars and don't think problems of the poor affect me in any way. All those who worship a god/gods are in denial in order to give meaning to life.

And maybe there are some people who can't be moral, ethical, or compassionate without positing some sort of supernatural beings to reward/punish their behavior. That's sad.

If you eliminate ego, there's no reason to care any less about anyone else than you do about yourself. You do the right thing because it's the right thing, not because God's going to give you the Eternal Attaboy or put your feet to the fire.

Who gets to decide which morals everyone is to follow? You?

Just asking.

Whats the right thing to do about saddam about any real life situations, what defines right, if i survive and some one else dies, oh well its right for me because I'm surviving. Without doing good things for someone you couldn't survive.
