i was charged with possession of marijuana- misdemeanor. I live in california and the police officer is saying that my license is going to be suspended for a year. I was sitting with some friends at a gas station getting directions and the officer rolled up and said we were making a drug deal. they searched my car and found an eigth of marijuana, bong, and two pipes. Can they really suspend my license?

But yeah, they can suspend your license for a year, but not necessarily will. Some of my friends were given the option of either losing their licenses for a year or consenting to random searches and drug testing for a year.

I'm 19. I don't know why I submitted that year i guess i was filling it out randomly. That sucks that the age is 21 though i thought it would have been 18. Also the police officer changed the cause of her bringing us into suspicion from thinking it is a drug deal to there being lots of robberies in the area. Is there anything wrong with that?

I'm surprised it's not till you're 21 honestly...although maybe it's different for a DUI than just a possession rap.

How does that work if you get caught lying on your year of birth here on this forum? Nothing personal to the dude that posted...but if he already lied about that who is to say he's really 19?

ok....thanks for the help from the other people im really not hear to convice you all of my age. and i just read the post from the other guy so i think my best option is to get a lawyer.

Your are asking several questions here in a backwards manner - maybe I can help. Did the Cop do something wrong that you can use to get out from under your responsibility for being really dumb with having a bong and two pipes?

No. The officer can offer a number of explainations that when combined showed that the officer was doing what any reasonable person would expect from Law Enforcement Officers. A car full of young males + night time = trouble.

Drug Deals, Robberies; both are likely scenarios in certain neighborhoods and trust that the officer has information that you do not - like the clerk in the gas station called 911, or the location is known for drug deals (proven with a number of arrests), or that some patron was very uncomfortable with your friends' method of asking directions. Trust that there is information outside of your knowledge that precludes you from figuring it out. A lawyer's investigation (discovery) is your only way of knowing.

It is routine around here on Marijuana.com for the same busted story trifecta - pot, car, teenagers. For a cop, it is like shooting fish in a barrel. Now that you know this - you need to tell all your friends to clean their cars.

And the excuse for your mistaken age is transparent - perhaps a false ID was involved in your pot case, too - but take the reply's as a lesson. Most of us would be happy to answer your question; but when you prove to be dishonest about such basics as age, your story is understood to be missing major details. Just sayin . . .
