Ok so I know how dumb it was allready My husband and I were traveling through Missouri (from Colorado aggh how lucky we are to live here.) We had agreed before the trip to not bring any smoke with us. At the last minute my husband threw some in his suitcase along with a pipe. We got pulled over by a state trooper with a dog. He asked my husband to go sit in his car with him, the dog went ape sh*& either way my husband told him there was pot in the car, and where it was at. After searching the rest of the car, he pulled it out, wrote my husband 2 tickets for possesion of the pot, and the pipe. Then I went back to cop car, I got wrote 2 tickets, and we went on our way.But of course I'm freaking out, we have children, a house, great jobs and I am worried about jail time. I know the max is 1 year or a $1000 fine. Neither one of us has any convictions, what do you think will happen to us? Thanks all ![]()

Well...just outta curiousity what part of MO were you in? My guess would be probation and a fine....and said probation if unsupervised would be a matter of mailing something in once a month. My biggest suggestion is to get a lawyer. Go to NORML's website and look for lawyers in MO that are listed there...and are listed in the area that you got busted in. If you want since i know the state fairly well after living there for so long...tell me where you got busted and i'll find someone on that site that's in that area.

It's in Lafeyette County, we were on I-70. I called one lawyer off of norml.org and he wanted a $2500 retainer, for possibly just one of us. We are paying a lot to get back for our court date and plus I figured with fines we could just save the money for that. The trooper was in the median, and my husband was speeding, we went over a hill, saw him slowed down to 5 over the speed limit. The trooper then got in the fast lane and stayed in his blind spot for a couple of minutes, then hit the lights and pulled us over. Came up to the passenger side window, asked him to come back to his while he told him why he pulled him over. He said he pulled him over for swerving (we have a mini van with a luggage thing on top, and it's windy) following to close, and speeding. So then he asked to search the car and wanted to know if he would find anything, so my husband told him.

Okay so you were on 70 and just got thru KC...any lawyer in KC will go to Lafayette Cty. Here's what i suggest you do if you aren't wanting to get a lawyer....go for the court date...talk to the prosecutor...ask them what you're looking at and what they'd drop it down to considering it's a first offense. At that point either take what they're offering or get a continuance to get an attorney...they have to give you time to obtain legal counsel. Honestly i'm appalled that your husband put you in such danger....i'd guess he was doing 10-15 over the limit if he was slowing down to 5 over the limit. Maybe your husband should talk to them and try to get them to drop the charges against you since HE is the one that caused you both this strife. And as far as i'm concerned the stupidest thing he could have done was to tell them anything and let him search the car. They ALWAYS ask if there's something in the car. While he was calling for a warrant to search the car if he wanted to that bad your husband could have climbed back there and eaten it if that was possible. Either way it was very irresponsible of him to put you both in danger like that...and your entire family! Why on earth would you speed with weed in the car? Baffles me... I hope you both (mainly him) learn a lesson from this whole ordeal and make it thru it okay. Best of luck.

Thanks for your advice. Regardless of the reasons we did get stopped and and now have the tickets we are going to devote our attention to those, not the reasons that we got them. But we were both planning on trying to get mine dropped ![]() Thank you so much, I'll let you know how it goes. In about 3 weeks ![]()

I grew up in tha KC area...you don't have really much to worry about. Go to your courtdate, let them know your situation. First offense, told 'em about what you had...cooperation and what not...live in another state. Chances are you'll have to pay a fine and stay outta trouble. Missouri also has diversion...a program for first time offenders to basically pay fines, stay outta trouble for a year, and then have it expunged from their records. Good luck to ya!! (and don't get caught in KS)
