Default Activism in Texas?

Does anyone know what I can do at the state/local level to help get cannibis legalized in Texas? I don't know where to start.

I suspect that most politicians know the history of cannibis and how it became illegal, and further, how it is just plain wrong. But to them, it's just the same old story. They aren't going to support it until they have a large constitunency backing them. To do otherwise would be political suicide.

I already suspect some of you to respond "Oh, just wake people up! The more people who know about it the better chance we have at getting it legalized." Yeah, well, that all sounds really fantastic, but the people who I've spoken with are either convinced already or think I'm just a stoner.

It is difficult to change people's minds, especially when the mainstream media advertises "Marijuana is death" ads on the TV. Do you realize how effective theses ads are to the masses? No, what we need is more than door-to-door canvasing. We need to get our message accross on the mainstream media. But how do we do that and what can I do?

What we need is "effective" communication that can convert even the most cynical of anit-cannibis types.

Try the Texas Chapter of NORML.

Also, on a populist level, try writing pro-marijuana slogans on every dollar bill you get, and tell your smoking buddies to do the same. Before long people will notice and begin talking, and people will start to wake up. There's a thread in the US activism forum about this... don't have a link but look it up.

For example, you could write "Just say know - Marijuana.com", or even "Every 45 seconds, someone is arrested for Marijuana." Or anything else your heart desires. Go for it, Texas needs the help!

You accomplish a lot more by sending those dollars to NORML, MPP, or DPA. I don't know who came up with this lame idea. I can't think of a single time in the last 40 years when I looked at a dollar bill beyond checking the denomination in the corner. Who does?

National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML)

Marijuana Policy Project (MPP)

Drug Policy Alliance (DPA)

Default Throw Your Hat Into The Ring

It's a numbers game. The more people we have running for municipal, county and state offices, the more people we get in to office who can effect change. We can then change the laws, and instruct administrative and law enforcement positions to lay off!
