Alright I have a question about the drug dogs. I go to high school in Canada, Ontario to be precise, and I was wondering what the laws were on the drugs dogs. We had drug dogs go through our school about a month ago and i was wondering what they are aloud to search? They walk by all the lockers and then take them into randomly chosen classes. My english class was one of them. Luckily I didn't have any ganja on me. The cops took us out of the room and then had the dogs search the room with all our stuff in there, but they never had the dog go by us(the students) in the hall. Is this because they arent aloud to have the dogs around the students? I believe that I could have gotten away with having weed in my pocket, but I deffinately would have been caught if it were anywhere else. Are there any policies about what the dogs are aloud to do, or is it different for every school board? This would be very helpful, so I can keep weed in my pockets without the fear of a dog coming in.

So let me get this straight - you are 20 years old and in High School.

And it is allowed - not aloud.

You should not take weed to your High School, period. Son, you are headed for big trouble and if the term "Drug-Free Zone" doesn't mean anything to you then you are going to end up in jail. They are bringing the dogs to your school because it has a drug problem - and rightfully so - because you are proof it has a drug problem. MJ will never be legalized if this type of behavior continues.

Don't bring it to school. Don't smoke it in your car, either. Learn from the thousands of stories here on marijuana.com from the other "20 year old" teenage high school students that have posted about their lives being ruined from a possession charge.

And you are correct in your assumption - they cannot search a minor's person with dogs in a school environment - but enough idiots' forget that it is in their backpacks and lockers to keep them busy. You will forget it is in your backpack someday, too.

In the great state of Virginia, at least: if the school has reasonable suspicion (not even probable cause), they (NOT the police) may search you, your bag, your car, your locker, etc. Essentially you have no rights. If they police dogs do find something, then they may search your locker. The School administration actually has more search & seizure flexibility than do the cops.

Don't count on that. Just because the dog ain't standin next to you, looking you in the eye, don't mean he can't smell ya.

Schools stand in loco parentis. That means that the school legally acts as your parent while you're there and has all the rights to search you and your effects that your parents would.

yeah we were talking about this in my law class. My teacher said if they have a good reason to search you, they can. They don't need to see any drugs or anything. She said that if she sees something that looks like a shifty transaction, they can search you, but she also said she doesn't think that they are aloud to search your car, which would be good, but im not sure about that.

Marijuana will never be accepted because of the effects and especially because ****in minors are taking it. Don't you ****in stupids know that is why the government is still trying to ban it, especially the goal of keeping minors off of it.

why not the crackdown on booze then?? minors get right hammered then steal cars and crash 'em. ruins their lives, and probably much worse than a little fine as is the case with most minor busts (minor meaning underage, not the opposite of major)... but hey.. guess it's just booze right......

They do that at my high school as well, and I believe that they aren't allowed to have the dogs near the students, so technically, yeah, if you had weed on you in your pocket, you'd be fine. However, having weed in school just isn't generally a good idea. I've had it with me in school twice, but only because that's where I acquired it.

I would rather a minor smoke a little weed, than mess with alcohol. It's not like the law is going to stop them anyway.

Message to the kids, marijuana use is okay, for adults.

Its not going to hurt them and if they are mature enough to cope with marijuana, then I don't see a problem. it may even help them to some extent such as relaxing for a big test or chillin after gym class.
