In 2 weeks I'm flying to New Zealand from the US, and am going to be there for 3 years. As such, I'd really like to bring along my two favorite glass pipes, but only if I can be sure I'll get away with it. Given the level of airport security nowadays, I'm not even going to try and hide them as I know they'll be found.

I'm wondering if I can clean them enough to say they're just for tobacco, and have it be believed. I'm figuring that I'll alternate between the salt + iso-alcohol bath and boiling them in water a few times, but even if I get them visually immaculate and clean to the human nose, am I going to have to worry about them calling a dog over to sniff it?

I'd like to hope that if I clean them and pack them out in the open without trying to hide them, they're not going to be closely scrutinized.

Any advice?

Don't bet on taking them through if they're found. The TSA will seize anything they don't like, leaving you the option of missing your plane while attempting to protest the seizure or leaving your treasures behind. I've been there.

I'm wondering what would happen if you put your pieces in the oven and set the temp to 500º for a couple of hours. That's well above the vaporization temperature of THC and not nearly hot enough to soften glass. That would boil off all the illegal stuff.

I suppose that's something I have to consider; that even if I were to bring along some brand-new, unused, store bought piece, there's a good chance it'll get seized just because of what it is.

Is there any way I can minimalize the chances of them not liking my pieces?

clean it well and take it. worst that can happen is they will take. if there is no residue on it they dont have anything on you.

Clean them thoroughly and mail them to yourself at your destination.

That's a pretty good risk. I think i would try to clean them also, and just hope for the best. If you don't end up taking them, I am sure you will find other peices that you will end up loving as well. It's a toss up. Good Luck.

Use a high proof rubbing alcohol and salt, scrub it down with that and itll look close to brand new

Clean them until they're spotless and mail them to yourself, or have a friend mail them.

It's still a risk but less of a risk than messing with TSA.

You might want to consider FedEx instead of USPS. There'd be less scrutiny and it would get there faster.

Thanks for the advice. Mailing them sounds much better, but would I have to worry about federal laws if I don't clean them well enough, even if I use FedEx or UPS instead of USPS?
