We, the people, of the Unites States of America, are blessed in that we have the wonderful privelage of LEADING our government... The first step toward legalization requires increasing the popular acceptance of marijuana. This is already happening in seval ways. A few of today's celebrities/politicians openly support marijuana legalization. Marijuana use has become a popular theme in television, movies, and printed media. The more information that the general public is exposed to, the more accustomed they become to the subject matter. Let's look at an example: Just a few decades ago, it was unheard of for a man and a woman to appear even sitting on a bed together. Compare that with the standards of today. How did those standards change? It happened because the media has steadily increased the intensisty of our exposure to bedroom play. In the same way, everyone who has an interest in legalization should seek to spread the word that marijuana is OK. The goal should not be to create activists on a large scale, but to create a population that accepts the idea of marijuana legalization. So now the question becomes: How do we increase that acceptance? 1) We must educate ourselves. Read as much as possible about the benefits of marijuana and the truth about popular myths. The more we know the better we will be able to say "WHY" marijuana should be legal. We must learn to recognize the limitations of its use, as well (i.e., age limitations, driving responsibilities, etc.). 2) We must share our knowledge of marijuana until it becomes common knowledge. Each person who has a say should say it, in as many ways as possible. The internet is a POWERFUL tool for spreading the word to a multitude of people from many different backgrounds. We must convince each person we interact with that they, too, need to learn and spread the word. My hero: Johnny Appleseed Why? He was focused and he liked having apple trees around.

Very wisely stated. If, as your user name implies, you are 14, your parents should be proud of the level of wisdom you’ve aspired to. As you’ve alluded to, the path toward encouraging ANYone to agree with us about anything is to first make sure they feel it’s OK for them to agree with us. We must start with our attitude toward the “other side”. It’s been my unfortunate observation, recently, that so many from “our side” are so consumed with pre-conceived prejudices about the “other side” … …how can we ever expect the “other side” to ever feel WELCOME to join with us? If we ever expect the “other side” to accept, understand, and love us, we must be willing to accept, understand, and LOVE them… and to teach them how, if necessary, with our example… It all starts with the next beat of OUR heart. ![]()

I agree with your viewpoint that public acceptance of marijuana should be increased. The more people that are concerned about the issue, the more voices we have to change the laws. However, remember that this is corporate America, and money talks. A lot of money is made by keeping marijuana illegal, and until the prospects from making it legal overcome the profits from keeping it illegal, nothing substantial will happen. One way to do this is, as you mentioned, to change public perception of marijuana. This only happens through education-- by dispelling the myths, by being completely honest about the pros and cons of marijuana use, by parents talking to their kids, etc. The internet is a priceless means to this end. As more people become pro-legalization, two things happen. First, more people will donate money to one of the legalization nonprofits, like NORML. Second, it expands the possibilities for a marijuana market, opening doors for marijuana businesses. Another (arguably more effective) way is to get the already existing multitudes of pro-legalization people to put their money where their mouth is. Have you donated to one of the legalization nonprofits recently? Have your friends? As for the creation of a marijuana market, a few possibilities exist. Hemp is somewhat promising, but legalization of hemp does not legalize marijuana. Medicinal marijuana is much more promising-- especially as more people turn to drugs for releif of their myriad ailments.

Approximately 1 in 80,000 apple trees grown from seed will produce fruit that is good to eat. When one is found it's a gold mine! All future trees of that variety are clones. They cut a branch from an existing tree and graft it onto the stump of a freshly cut apple tree grown specifically for that purpose. When I was a kid, we had an apple tree that produced four different kinds of apples. Instead of grafting on one branch they grafted on four. Chapman's trees, grown from seed, produced apples that were fit only for making alcoholic cider and distilled alcohol.

You all seem to be really high to believe that pot should be legal. I mean hell you think that being so ****ed up where you can not even know what the hell you are doing is ok, I think you need to just stop being dumbasses. By the way you stupid ass fake urine and other tests will not always work when it comes to new technology, maybe they will start DNA testing the urine to make sure it is yours. Another thing the so called people selling medicinal marijuana are selling it illegally, why because even if a law allows that the seller are sending it without prescriptions. One more thang the legal buds aren't so legal if it causes the same effects as marijuana. I hope all of you just get so high that you get hit by a car.

Excuse me? Wow, I hope you're some one trying to provoke a meaningless argument, because if you aren't that's kind of sad. What do you want the response to that to be? "Dude, you like, shouldn't judge others, cause it's like, bad, man."? I vote that we should just ignore "thruthfulchat's comment completely and get on with the topic: Share our knowledge of the benifits of marijuana. Completely agree with you there man, but it needs to start small, like with Denver. There, an ounce of bud is legal, but only by city law, State laws say that it is punishible by a $100 fine. Eventually, I hope all of Colorado if steeped in Mary Jane, then, after the State's crime rate doesn't get worse, It slowly migrates to other staes, hopefully, this is just a matter of time, but this could be a passing fancy of the mile-high city, so get off your asses and write a congressman.
