OK, heres a quick tip for all those who would want to avoid getting in trouble for your pipe. First keep it clean. No resedue means no proof. But here is the kicker-keep a small package of pipe tabacco with it. Some Jimmy comes along askin what it is say "ocifer-its fer my tabaky" proof positive you dont intend to smoke that bad bad MJ (ironiquly I will absolutely NOT smoke tabacco, to addictive.)

You're forgetting a key point............ residue is not the only thing that can make a pipe be considered paraphernalia.

Meaning if you stopped somebody and you found a pipe on them, you wouldn't be certain to charge them with it, correct?

In your book as a LEO, would the odds of being charged increase if somebody you stopped bs'ed you and told you that it was for smoking tobacco? Just curious...

I was stopped a few years back due to a loud muffler. Well, I ended up being cuffed and stuffed because I didn't do everything that a court had ordered previously. Anyway, during the stop, the officer found a pipe (well, duh... It was sitting right out in the open) that had been used for marijuana. He asked me about it, I said that I had smoked pot in the past, but the pipe was used for different herbs (very true). It didn't smell like pot, but he said that he thought that I probably smoked pot in it. He threw the pipe out as we were leaving and asked me if I had a problem with it. "Nope, if its fine with you, its fine with me" was my answer.

Though I was arrested, booked and very uncomfortable for awhile, the officer did me a favor. I don't know if he figured it wasn't worth the hassle, felt sorry for me or whatever. I Don't care.

My thoughts- from my dealings with LEO's (just enough to know that I don't want to play anymore) attitude plays a better hand for minor offenses than a bs story. Cops are lied to daily, they know when most people are lying. I wouldn't like to insult their intelligence. Not all good cops are smart, but good cops are usually very observant.

The problem with "keeping it clean" is just that. It is next to impossible to get all the residue out of a pipe, one hitter, etc. The other thought is, if it is clean, you probably haven't been smoking out of it lately and you have little to be worried about.

I'd agree that the pouch of tobacco would add credibility to your story, but I woudn't try it if I had any other substances on me. (especially if my tobacco looked 10 years old) My way of thinking is that the more dishonest I seem to an officer the more chance that things get escalated and I get searched.

However, it would be fun to sit by the courthouse for a few hours puffing on tobacco, just to see the results. (I woudn't recommend it though)

Maybe if you actually have one of the wooden tobacco pipes that might work. I useually carry some rolling tobacco on me because I have heard that if you have papers without tobacco it is considered parephenalia. Besides if you don't mind women with yellow teeth there is no better way to pick up a female ciggerette smoker than rolling her a nice tight ciggerette. And there are some situations were a nice hand rolled ciggette come if very usefull. Like right after sex. There is nothing quite like it. Or if you are running out of pot and are try to make what you have last longer just cut it with tobacco when you roll you doobies.

it seems like it would kindof depend on what type of pipe you had. If you carry a metal pipe, or glass pipe, or pretty much anything except for a wooden one, then it looks quite suspicious.

just dont leave your pipe out...

You said it was very hard to clean a pipe.; personally, I think it's almost too easy. Just boil it and everything comes out and off.
