| All criminal offences in Canada are intra virres to federal jurisdiction. By this I mean that all criminal offences in Canada are the same across Canada, and include the same laws and punishments. Marijuana posession IS a criminal offence, and penalties and enforcement are not unique to separate provinces. Therefore, you should simply be asking for information regarding Canada's laws of pot. These would fall under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and I believe it would be classified under section 1. So do a google search regarding Sector 1 (or section 1, can't remember) of the Canadian Controlled Drugs and Subsances Act. Or something of that sort. If I get around to it I'll look it up.

I think that Alberta, along with other Western provinces tend to be much more left-wing, socialist, etc when compared to Ontario and Quebec. I'm not too sure about the maritimes, eXploit can answer that. But it's not relevant, because you are in the west, but the best I can tell you is that the judges and cops in Alberta would be more lenient than those in Ontario. if that helps. For all laws regarding pot consult the controlled drugs and substances act or the Criminal Code of Canada. You should be able to find proper sections on google.

if you're not selling bud, then you pretty much have nothing to worry about. if you're sitting in a park smokin a joint on a bench and an officer walks by, 99% of the time he'll just tell you to take it somewhere else. and 0.9% of the time they'll make you destroy your bud by mashing in to the ground. and the 0.1% would be arrested and charged for posession because you didn't mash your bud into the ground like the nice officer told you to do. i've had the first 2 happen to me, but not the last 0.1%! but back on the subject of alberta... i have no idea how slack the pot laws are enforced there, but i am certain it's nothing like most of the states.
