| Thanks for all you help! Does each county really have laws that differ that much? I never knew if that is the case. Does this mean then that if i were to take a CA only roadtrip... i could be safe in say LA and in another county be messed with for the same ammount? the 1/2 ounce you specified? is that statewide? But i guess from now on i have no idea what my buddy has in his pockets! =) | |

| KingAlf, Federal law, State law and local laws vary throughout the US. Federal law has Okay'd State and Local governments to approve Medicinal MJ. Some Local governments, like LA County have adopted guidelines that make the possession of Med. MJ legal. However, as you know LA County is more liberal than most. Give a day or two and I'll find the Statewide ruling and let you know. | |

| Afro: If you go outside and smoke, them come back in, I promise you, a non-pot smoker WILL smell it on you. Just like non-smokers smell cigarettes on me, but I don't notice the smell. |

| KingAlf, The State of California passed proposition 215 in 1996 which approved the use of medicinal MJ. I would suggest checking out your local guidelines on Prop 215 to ensure that you are within those guidelines, due to the fact some jurisdictions are more conservative than others. Also you can check out specific laws regarding MJ on the net. Simply go to findlaw.com and search for California Codes. Then look under the Health and Safety code section starting at 11350 H&S. | |

| Just a question for you Slate.... I live in LA county too. I was just wondering what the statistics are like for marijuana possession related arrests in our area.. im curious as to how much danger I'm in ![]() Also, I wonder as to how many anonymous tip offs you get regarding kids smoking weed... i tend to smoke in residential areas, and i wonder what the odds are like on one of them reporting us should they catch a glimpse of something. You're the coolest law enforcement related person i've ever heard from; thanks for helping us humble tokers to avoid the gratuitous punishments waiting for us that most of us don't deserve ![]() | |

| MidniteToker, In LA County there are three big rules to keep you out of jail for pot. 1) You have got to be over 18 years old. 2) DON'T take MJ on school grounds and 3) Always carry ID with you. If you are over the age of 18, have a valid ID on you and you are found to be in possession of MJ (less than 28.5 grams) you will not go to jail, per 11357(b) H&S which directs you to 853.6 PC. You will only be cited and released. However, if you are on school grounds or other mitigating circumstances exist (ie. warrants) you will be arrested, sorry. The stats on MJ arrest are impossible to track, with any accuracy anyhow. That is due to the fact even though one may be technically arrested under 11357(b), it only shows as a citation. My guess would be that MJ arrests reflect the area in which you live. A lot MJ around, a lot of MJ arrests. | |

| I mean if you look at the punishments for possesion in California, it might as well be decriminalized to us here in Missouri. Why can some states have such minor 100$ fines, but here they say up to i think it was 2 years in prison for a small possesion! I think i may move to cali, or maybe wyoming But i guess that would be rediculous to move because of that.
