| {Moderator Note: Edited for off topic content. This post besides not being marijuana related had very little relevance to the subject of protecting our rights under the current laws. Let's try to keep our eye on the ball here. Thanks~GG}

| "Since when is it illegal to cary around a knife?? I keep a swiss army knife on my keychain." I didn't say it was. You're talking about a swiss army knife. It folds. In my state, that is classified as an "ordinary pocket knife". A dagger is a fixed blade knife. It does not fold, so it is not considered a pocket knife, since it requires a sheath. See the difference? As for pepper spray, that varies too much for me to give you a good answer. |

| QUOTE, Originally posted by Slightly Stoopid; "Since when is it illegal to cary around a knife California penal code states, it is a felony for any person to be in possesion of a Dirk/Dagger. That person shall be punished under Ca. 12020 PC. Pepper spray falls under 470 PC (CA Law). As used in self-defense, it's legal. | |

| LA penal code, in layman's terms ... sodomy is a felony. defined as, but not limited to, any sex, whether consentual or not, in which the intention of procreation is impossible. Yes, oral sex is a felony in LA. I wonder if that law ever stopped anyone (I know a whole bunch of felonious cops on that one). To be literal, the comment was about it being illegal to carry a "knife", dirks and daggers are specific types of knives. It is a matter of opinion whether a blade measuring less than 2 inches is a dagger or a letter opener. But off topic, so let me try to steer back on in. My assertion was that the fact that it was legal here, and that the cops took it anyway and refused to arrest me, that they were, in fact, disobeying the letter of their own law. So, consequently, cops may opt not to respect the rights of one video-taping them. In Seatle, I reiterate, they pepper-sprayed an innocent lady in a car during the riots. Proper action was taken against the officers in question, but I'm sure that knowing your rights and asserting them often makes no difference to law enforcement. ...and please remember, this did not happen in CA. I mean no disrespect, but the letter of the law falls in different alphabets in different states. I suppose I should've fabricated a little in that post and claimed a chain was the item, lol, for the item "dagger" mentioned has caused much digression from the actual intention of the post. ...so much that I won't repost in this thread, fearing it a bit too off-topic. |

| niteshift about the knives, i see the folded vs sheath thing, and it made me wonder about butterfly knives and switchblades. both in a sense fold down. the butterfly knife does flod and teh switch blade folds but on a different axis. so why are these 2 items in most states illegal to carry or even have? |

| They generally will be considered illegal because they are, in a general sense, more weapon than tool. The idea behind it, at least in my state, was that a pocket knife is a common tool. People carry it for all sorts of mundance reasons. The others, however, are usually used as weapons. Granted, you could use one of them to clean under your nails or open a bag of beef jerky, but they're typically sold as, bought as and used as weapons. I don't know that I agree with that, but that is the general idea behind the differences. |

| I am allowing those posts that are already up to remain but I am going to ask that any more questions in this thread pertain to protecting your rights as they relate to marijuana. As interesting as the laws on knives are...it has very little relevance to what we are hoping to accomplish here. Thanks, ~GG

| The answer is probably not without a warrant, unless there was some reason he could justify the tapes were evidence. |
