Default The effects of legalization on crime and street safety

I wanted to know different people's opinions on what effects legalization would have on crime and street safety. Would this make crime and safety on the streets better or worse? Let me know what you think.

I don't think it would change at all. In my opinion I don't think marijuana is the cause of unsafe streets. The crime may go down for marijuana dealing and possesion but there would still be lots of popular illicit drugs to be sold.

The immediate effect on crime would be 750,000 fewer arrests every year. Dealers would stop getting ripped off for weed and money so often, and when they did they'd probably be insured. End users would stop getting ripped off by dishonest dealers.

I don't think it would have much effect at all on street safety. Unsafe drivers are risk takers and are probably driving stoned now. Many people who drink because they can't smoke due to drug testing would switch to a drug that does a lot less to impair driving ability.

One effect would be that the price of pot would go down. It would become a buyer's market and people would have a choice of how to get their weed.

I think that the ability for law enforcement to be able to shift resources away from marijuana and focus them on harder drugs, such as meth, cocaine, and heroine, will signifacantly reduce violent crime.

As far as making the streets safer, I think that people who drink instead of smoke because of legality, will smoke instead. This will probably reduce the amount of drunk driving, creating safer streets.
