Default International legality of "clean" bowls/pipes?

Hi. I did a search for this topic already and didn't come up with anything so I apologize if this is a common question.

Basically, I am going to spend 5 months abroad in Australia and obviously I am going to leave all of my weed "equipment" behind. I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy a new pipe to bring with me because I know they are legal to possess in many states if they contain no marijuana residue. Does anyone know if paraphernalia is illegal internationally regardless of the presence of any type of drug? The same goes for a grinder; is a clean grinder still illegal?

Any replies are appreciated.

That is likely going to vary from country to country, just as it does from state to state in the US.

What he said. Also, the amount of hassle you're likely to get at airports even if the clean pipe is technically legal would make it worth while to buy a new one when you get to Australia instead of taking it with you.

The TSA has a lot of latitude when it comes to seizing things it thinks shouldn't be taken on airplanes. They wouldn't let me take my keychain on a flight. It is handmade and unique. It could also be construed to be a roach clip. I had to get out of line, mail it to myself, and almost missed my flight.

Ok...Looks like I won't be bringing any pipes with me. Another question. I am going to bring my laptop with me because it's pretty essential to do work with. Since I've smoked in my room before, there are tiny flakes of marijuana in between the keys in the keyboard. Not a lot, probably around .005 of a gram. Will this pose a problem if dogs are used? Technically would I be in possession of marijuana even though its unusable?

Dogs can smell in levels as low as 4 to 5 parts-per-billion (ppb = 1 foot in 190 miles). So to put it in human visual terms, it would be like seeing a 5 foot person standing 190 miles away. Could a properly trained and handled dog smell your trace amounts - yes. Would it be effective for the overall objective in controlling drug smuggling - no. So dogs are trained to ignore below a certain lower threshold in their work. By way of example - drug screens are similarly capable, but calibrated to ignore below a certain threshold. To avoid the "contact high" when testing for users.

This would be an issue on your arrival at your destination country, but trace amounts should not be an issue, as they would result in too many false alerts for the dogs to be effective. Consider flipping that unit unside down and, perhaps, utilize one of those compressed gas blowers. Call it MJ hygine, but why not have some peace of mind.
