**Sorry if there is already a post like this, tried searching this issue with no luck..

I was at my local smokeshop the other day and I got in trouble with the chick there for saying the word Bong (she said I have to say waterpipe). I know there are certain unspoken rules about how to phrase things in a smokeshop, but obviouslly I dont know all of them.

Can anyone clarify what is OK and Not OK to say and allude to at a smokeshop? I know they are being careful to follow the laws and stuff, I just dont want to say the wrong thing again, or get someone in trouble.

use "spoon" instead of "glass bowl", "chillum" or "handpipe" instead of "one hitter", I believe 'bubbler' is still safe to say (at least I haven't had any trouble). hmm, I can't think of what else there might be. just keep in your mind that you are shopping at a "tobacco smoking shop" and phrase your statements accordingly.

Just call everything pipes and make sure you only refer to smoking tobacco. That's all you need to know.

here in California they just don't want you saying bong or anything that can be even considered linked to weed.. just try to stay away from slang and stoner lingo and you'll be fine.

Where I once lived in Madison, Wisconsin, on a college student ladden place called state street ; in my favorite smoke shop...They had a sign that said

"We do not sell marijuana smoking pieces, devices, or papers, and any one suspected of buying such will be refused sale."

If you think the clerk is cool, and you want to ask about something ; insinuate.

for instance : "If you were to smoke tobacco, which pipe would you say produces the best smoke?"

or : "You look educated on the subject (insert little smile to cute pothead looking clerk girl) May I ask what utencil you might recommend to suit my particular needs?"

You get the idea. Be cool, be respectful, and you'll get orgasmicly good service and treatment in return.

Bubbler is ok to say. When I was buying my bubbler I refered to it as a hand waterpipe, but the clerk refered to it as a bubbler.
