Default To Accept a Package or Not??

Hello all, looking for some advice here. Friend sent me a USPS Priority Mail package containing several items including approx. 1/2 ounce in a jar of peanut butter. Two days later I recieved a notice in mailbox stating that mailperson attempted to deliver the package (weird because I was home all day). Anyway I'm supposed to indicate on the notice whether I'd like to pick up the package from the post office or have mailperson attempt to deliver it again, and include my signature. I'm paranoid about a setup! Obviously it would seem unlikely for cops to waste time over such a small amount of pot, but who knows? Stupidly, a nice espresso coffee maker was included in the package, which makes refusing the package even more difficult.

I'd appreciate any advice, especially from those of you with experience in such situations.

Are you sure you have to sign that little piece of paper to have them attempt to deliver it again? Usually you call in for that and it does not involve you knowing who is mailing what to you so it would still be in the realm of not being able to blame you for something someone mailed to you. Not that that clears you 100% of any liability but it does help a good lawyer out. I think that if it were discovered they would have already siezed it.

That's my opinion atleast, and I'm no lawyer. Double check it for a number to call to tell them to re-deliver. I have had UPS knock on my door and almost be back in his truck within 10 seconds when I opened the door and asked him where he was going with my package. Sometimes they are more concerned with getting out of work early than getting you your package.

Hello Explicit, there is a blurb on the slip which says the following: "Allow at least two days for redelivery, or call your post office to arrange delivery." So perhaps calling in is an option, but this isn't completely consistent with the rest of what is written on the slip (which is poorly articulated and very confusing). Maybe I should just try calling in then, and ask them to place the package on my doorstep?

thanks for your help!

That is a standard US Postal Service "Sorry We Missed You" form. Your friend said he mailed this just USPS Priority Mail? That usually does not require a signature. Overnight I think does unless the sender checks off a box saying otherwise but regular USPS Priority Mail does not unless the sender requests that you have to sign for it. Speak with your friend and find out exactly how he mailed it.

I'd just go get the thing, take it home, and let it sit for a day or so unopened.

Thats a reg deliveyr form. I've been hoem too, and the mailman leaves those and i'm like WTF.. no way they came to my door. I think they just leave them in the mail box to let u know you have a package.

If its reg priority, you dont need to sign, just go get it, take the card.

Well that's what I just did (already opened it tho). So that's a relief. But I probably won't do that again...too paranoid. All this just so I can smoke some quality pot! Thanks for everyone's advice.

Next time just make sure your buddy checks that box and you won't have to worry. Don't worry bout peanut butter, just use vac sealers and you are good. I got 16 a couple days ago and I know if I have to sign it is no good. Communication is the key between you and your buddy.
