| hello. I am likely going to be a convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia soon (unless my lawyer can find some way to get me out of it). I had a few questions concerning this, and was hoping someone could help me. First, my current job has a policy that I must inform them within one working day of any drug conviction (yep, that's the only thing they require you to inform them about). They do have a drug treatment-type program for that, but as I haven't been working there for too long, I'm pretty sure I would just be fired. Of course, if I don't tell them and they find out, I'm fired for sure. So, I was wondering if anyone knows if your average city job does any more background checks besides the initial one upon hiring, or if they would have any other way of finding out about it? (I will likely have a year of unsupervised probation, if that matters.) Second, I was wondering if this would show up on a background check if it was done now? I'm in the pretrial phase; I should have 1-2 months before I am convicted, if that's the way it turns out. I'm asking because if the answer to the first question is yes, and I can find another job that won't do periodic checks, I need to find a new job (or two) quick. oh, one more thing. I'm sure I could find this one with a bit of searching, but.. Does this ever go away? Namely, am I going to have to check the 'yes' box for conviction of a crime for every job I apply for for the rest of my life (even if I move states)? Well, thanks a lot in advance! |
