Hey all, my friend and I were planing on painting this large rock we have on our diag on campus. Usually student groups put stuff like "stop the iraq war, etc." so we were thinking of putting "recognize it, legalize it." with a big weed leaf on the front. This rock is in a place were campus cops would pass by it atleast once an hour, we do it at night(and its not illegal to paint it) but when the sun hits, the cops can see what we wrote. Assuming they stop and talk to us(we were planing on still being there) if we have nothing on us, don't look stoned, and cooperate fully with the cops, is there anything they can do. I.e. can they say "since you painted this shit about weed we think your a pothead so we're gonna drug test you!" and then when they find the metabolites in my system from 10days ago charge me with usage??

This seems highly unlikely that they would do this, especially if we weren't dicks to them, but I heard a story about girls being under suspicion of smoking in their dorm room(smelled like weed in the hall) and the cops forced them to take a drug test. But then again this story is an ex-gfs, friends, friends, roomates story, so who knows if its true.

I live in the great state of Meeechigan by the way, incase you were wondering. I've looked on NORMLs website and searched google but found nothing on info if cops can force you to submit to a drug test based on suspicion (they're only suspicion in this case is the rock with a painted weed leaf and me standing infront of it) in Michigan. Any advice would be greately appreciated.

Internal possession is illegal in some places. It is not illegal in Michigan. I have fond memories of Ann Arbor. U of M is my alma mater.

In South Dakota, you could be charged with a class two misdeamenor "Being under the influence of an intoxicant other than alcohol" or a class 1 misd. "Possession of Marijuana" as a positive urine test is considered evidence of possession. however, I don't know how this would apply in many cases, as a warrant to take your urine would be required anywhere other than if you were driving a car....by driving a car, you are agreeing to the "implied consent" laws which allow a driver to be tested for alcohol and drugs if the officer has suspicion you are under the influence

As far as I've been able to discover, South Dakota is the only state that has laws against internal possession. Maybe that's why fewer than a million people live there?

While i dislike that law, I DO NOT dislike the fact there are fewer people out here. Gives one plenty of room to do what one pleases, without the prying eyes of neighbors! I hope I die before SD experiences any sort of population boom. The LACK of people here is one of the main factors KEEPING me here! Its perfect for an anti-social SOB like me!!!! Seriously though, I love this state....not necessarily the laws, but the western half of SD is awesome (the eastern half could be wiped off the map for all I care....as long as i can evacuate a handful of friends....and the eastern part is where the majority of people live as well, thereby improving my state even more if it were to disappear!)

The open spaces does have it's drawbacks though.

While i won't be naive enough to say that SD doesn't have a meth problem, its not as if every abondoned farm has a lab in it. I'd take a few meth labs over daily drive-bys and whatnot anyday. I like the fact my nephews can go out and play all day, with the biggest dqanger being the occasional rattlesnake, rather than pedophiles, murderers. As far as OVERALL safety goes, I'll put rural SD against ANY major city.
