| I am finally willing to advance a couple thoughts. Dogg, welcome to America. I can understand your views, yet since you do not tell us which third world country you come from, you give us no reference point as to your personal experience re: freedom. Yet you leave us with the impression that you had suffered marked lacks of freedom. Some third world countries actually enjoy more freedoms in some areas than Americans do. Americans have it good compared to many many others. I think we are all aware of that, at some level. But why do we have it so good? Because we have drawn parallels to historical events and worked to stop them from happening again. Even in tiny insignificant forms such as bad drug laws and the discrimination against people who choose a different drug. Think a different way. Because Americans know that tyranny and and other peculiar human perversions start small. No genocidal war and no Tyrannical government ever sprang full blown from nothing. They always start small. And grow in slow and insidious ways. Here a law gone, there the denial of work because of... I would be blind to not draw parallels to many historical things and events. A few to broaden the debate. I compare: The drug war and Viet nam: Especially in regards to a Government that cannot admit its own part in fostering the lies that kept a senseless war going. Nor accept the responsibility needed to end that war until natural events forced their hand. The cold war: CIA....errrr DEA offices all over the world. advisors to governments and more and more shadow commitments. Diplomats sent to keep satellite Nations in line. Monies awarded to Governments that toe the line and choose democr....ummm abstinence. The falling away of communist nations as the inevitable lies inherent in Soviet communism became apparent and people got FED UP! The cold war ended as the drug war will. It just went away. There are many parallels that can be drawn. History does repeat itself. And that is why the vigilant are vigilant. "We never knew, we thought Hitler was good. He brought work and we could eat! If we did hear about something, no one could make us believe it. Germans WOULD NOT act like that!" A comment from my wifes aunt Herta. 71 now and a young girl back in the holocaust. She often speaks of those days. The message here is not that The National Sozialisten removed freedoms and committed atrocities. After the fact, that is well known and often enough documented. Just as the atrocities of the Drug war will be documented after the fact. I agree wholeheartedly with any one who is willing to declare that the drug war is in no way close to the holocaust. I also have come to the opinion, being an American living in Germany for some years now, that the germans have learned their lesson. They scrutinize every law and action that affects freedom with minute care. They are not perfect, but they do try to assure that never happens again. America has not yet had a Tyrant. George discounted. And I for one do not wish to let it ever become so. I walk by a synagogue every day. It has a stone in front of it. The citizens of Bremerhaven rebuilt it after the war. The nazis had burned it in 1937. There are still places here where people do not dig deep, because thats where "They" buried the "Russen". I have two families of neighbors, both gypsies. I have shared many a conversation with these people. So, I think I have a pretty clear understanding of the holocaust. I am not jewish, but I am a thinking man. Homo Sapiensis Cannabisis And becasue I am a thinking man I see the signs and draw a parallel then move to make sure such a thing never happens again. Even in tiny miniature bubbles of evil. In the struggle for perfection, even tiny evils must be eradicated. Like the drug war, before it grows. And that is MY position. Good day.
