I was going to go to a teen dance, and I thought it would be cool to go stonned. Unfortunately, I didn't get my buds until it was about to start, and they were going to lock to doors.

So, I skipped smoking and went in...

When I got inside, my first thought was "THIS IS INSANE!!" Cops were taking coats (you weren't allowed to bring bags or coats in), giving breathiliser tests, turning away people that looked like "trouble makers", questioning almost everyone, and dragging "suspicious" people away to talk to them! A few of my friends had smoked up before coming and they were SCARED! I left them for a minute to take a piss, and the guy who got the buds for me was dragged into the bathroom by a cop and pushed up against the wall and was searched!! The cop only found rolling papers, but he pressured, and pressured the guy and he finally confessed he was stonned. The cop then dragged him away into the car outside. I think about 5 or 6 people were arrested at that dance and many people just plain left because they were afraid of the cops.

Don't you think the cops went WAY OVERBOARD over a teen dance in my small town of about 1,100 people!?

can they even do anything if your stoned?In BC i dont think you can get caught for just being stoned. Who had the weed. Are you the carrying the weed. I would of just left and not gone!but they did go to far for just a dance!

The thing is... the guy who got arrested when I was in the bathroom CONFESSED he was stonned to the cop, so that's why they took him to the station. I'm not sure what they were going to do with him...

Everyone there was fed up with the cops, so a ton of people (including me) left.

Thats crazy, they searched a guy in the washroom? They must have been violating some rights right there. Thats messed up, I wouldn't go near a place like that. Reminds me of highschool, they think you have no sense of what your doing therefore they believe they have the right to control your every action and even the way you think. If I was your friend and even though I was stoned but knew I had nothing incriminationg on me, I would just tell him if you want to search me, your going to have to arrest me, because I'm not doing anything wrong here and I refuse to answer any of your questions and thats that. So whats the cop going to do then? Use force to search you with out a reason? Arrest you for no reason? Probably not. The worst he can do is turn you away say you can't come in to the dance. At least thats how I believe things sorta work, at least around here I think.

Why exactly did they take the guy to the station just for being stoned? I could be wrong here, but I'm pretty sure you can't be arrested just for being stoned. If they find a bag they can arrest you, a seed, a stem, a pipe. Possession and sale are illegal, but smoking it is not. All the guy had to say was I'm not stoned, and he could've gotten away with nothing. They searched him and didn't find anything (I'm pretty sure the papers don't count as anything unless they're found with marijuana, at that point they become paraphenalia, again I could be wrong), that should mean he should be free to go about his business. Hope everything turns out alright with him and I hope you have less problems with cops. If this is a continuing trend, I suggest you brush up on your rights just in case you need them.

Papers are generally sold as "tobacco rolling papers", so they probably can't be considered (illegal) drug paraphernalia.

if they found the papers on him and he said he had been smoking they can arrest him thats posesion of drug phariphanalia if he would have said no im not high and shut up thats under age possesion of a tobbaco product and they more than likely cant do anything about that atleast they cant where im from its his own fault he got arrested never confess to something they have no proof of and if they say they do have proof tell them to prove it if they dont then there tryin to get you to confess
