| I'm not sure this really applies here, but here goes. This situation is not happening to me, but may very likely apply in the future. My boss is part-owner/manager of the store I work at. The other day an insurance agent showed up unannounced and said that the other owners (they own the majority of the business) are getting life insurance for the managers of the stores. My boss is freaking out because the company is going to want to run a drug test on him. He's pretty sure he'll come up clean, but anyway. Today we find out that the policy they are taking out would not benifit the managers or thier families. It would go back to the other owners in order to cover the expense of replacing the managers. My question is can someone be fired for being unable to get this kind of insurance on them for whatever reason. I don't want to lose my job because I don't qualify for life insurance. Could that reasoning for termination be held up in court? What if it were for different reasons like SCUBA diving or skydiving? Could my employers justify termination?
