Is smoking marijuana illegal?

I know this sounds really stupid, but is it? All I've seen are laws saying possession/cultivation/dealing marijuana are illegal, but I've never seen an actual law saying smoking it is illegal. I'm sure there are laws on this, but I just thought I'd pose the question.

is that illegal, though, because I haven't seen a law that says ingestion of marijuana is illegal. If it is I may just be unaware of it.

You're still in possession of the THC, which is the part of mj that is the mainly regulated part. You're possessing it via the smoke.

Another thing you'll hear is "constructive possession" and you are certainly in constructive possession if your lips are wrapped around the smoking implement.

There won't be any charges if they catch you finishing a joint. Smoke cannot be used for evidence, as it cannot be confiscated.

Even if you still have half a joint, no cop in the world would bring you up on charges. The media would have a field day, and that would open up debate, which is not a good thing for the War Against Drugs TM.

It depends on the cop. It depends on your attitude. But the media would not have a field day over someone being arrested for half a joint. They don't care. Even if they did report on it, it would do nothing to open a debate. If that were the case, we'd have an awesome dialogue going on right now about what could be done to reduce the harm that the drug laws are doing to our country. And I don't hear the right people talking about such issues.

There is actually a current case in Northern California where a MEDICAL patient with an approved note from her doctor was arrested for possesion of HALF OF ONE JOINT.
Media hasn't even picked up on it. I think it was because they found it in her car so they assumed she was driving under the influence.

It depends on the cop. It depends a LOT on your attitude. And in 99.99% of the cities the media could give a damn.

Sure, some place like this or a pro-legalization outlet might publicize it, but the local media, let alone national, won't even care. It's simply unimportant to them and it doesn't sell papers.
