| The following was taken from marijuana.com... "A Senate bill (S. 2633) and two House of Representatives bills (HR 3782 and HR 3782) have been portrayed by their Congressional sponsors as an "anti-Rave bill," but the language in the bill says, "Whoever knowingly promotes any rave, dance, music, or other entertainment event, that takes place under circumstances where the promoter knows or reasonably ought to know that a controlled substance will be used... shall be fined under title 18, United States Code, or imprisoned for not more than 9 years, or both." But WAIT!!! There's more. "The new laws, which have been represented by sponsors as anti-amphetamine and anti-ecstasy legislation, actually make it a federal crime to host any event during which illegal drugs may be used. A broad interpretation of the proposed laws (an interpretation that would certainly be backed up by a US Supreme Court which has repeatedly endorsed the idea that constitutional rights can be suspended in furtherance of the drug war) is that people who facilitate raves, concerts, festivals, marijuana rallies, and even backyard parties where illegal substances might be used, are subject to a $250,000 fine and ten years in federal prison." Think of the implications! This is threatening our very right to freedom of praceful assembly!!! You know what? It's easy to contact your State Senator. Use the following link to find the Senators from your state. http://www.senate.gov/senators/senator_by_state.cfm Here is what I sent to Senator George Voinovich of my State. You may feel free to copy and paste these words and send them to your State Senators, although a letter of your own original composure would probably be more powerful: "I am writing to urge you to vote "NO" on Senate Bill 2633. DO NOT enact any law that would ban raves or other events in which entheogens are merely SUSPECTED of being used. This is an outright attack on our right to peaceful assembly. The implications of this law are so far-reaching and so frightening, that it scares me to no end. The Bush Administration is now tring to enact laws to take away freedoms that our forefathers so valiantly fought and died for hundreds of years ago. The Federal Government is growing far too powerful. Our founding fathers enacted barriers to keep the federal government from holding too much power over the citizen, but our current government is removing these barriers. I urge you, for the future of my children and the future of America-- do not uphold Senate Bill 2633 or any other bill that threatens the blood-bought freedoms of your fellow Americans. Think of the future. Take your stand, please, for all of us." It is our OBLIGATION to contact them and tell them to vote a definite and resounding "NO" to Senate Bill 2633! DO YOUR PART AND STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS. If you do not, you WILL lose them... | |

| Here's a link to an article on the RAVE act on salon.com. http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/200...act/index.html It's so ridiculous that I think it helps the marijuana cause more than it hurts it. Think about it, imagine the owner of a sushi restaurant getting 20 years in prison for hosting a weekly rave every Saturday night. Oooh, some people were on drugs. That makes him a bad man. Shesh. Heh. Would the owner of the Hollywood Bowl be thrown in shackles because a sizeable percentage of Neil Young concert attendees smoked marijuana? ![]() It's amusing in a black humor way, no? Anyway, read the article, but here's an interesting quote from it: Quote:

| You're right, but what constitutes a "party" or "gathering"? If me and 2 or three friends are smoking in my backyard and say, if the 5-0 just happen to show up for whatever reason, would that qualify? don't you think they'd want it to? |

| The thing is that they wont go after the sushi bar owner. Such a loosely defined definition of public gathering simply leaves it entirely up to the investigating agency which is a bad thing. What sucks the most out of this is that it will affect harm reduction efforts of associations like DanceSafe who are at these functions to help. |

| DanceSafe is really a good organization. I talked to them before at quite a few raves. They even bring a portable chemistry lab there to test your off-topic substances to make sure that you weren't sold something dangerous. (Pretty common at raves.) |

| There was a rave I was planning on going to at the Sloss Furnace in Birmingham, but it was shutdown by the cops and they confiscated around $13,000 worth of drugs. A couple people got arrested. Also, in Cherokee County, around 1000 plants were destroyed. Damn.
