About 7 months ago i was at a keg. wasnt drinking just smoking and had a pipe on me. To make a long story short me and my other friend with are put in cuffs, the driver does have anything but is high so he is cuffed and we all had are rights read. Than the cops boss shows up and the cop explains how well we acted and listened. So the boss says ok you guys got off, the cops just took some information and that was it. Well last night theres a message telling me i have a court case for marijuana chrages, i'm currently 17 but will be 18 in about a month. LEO's please help. I'm in seattle. I'm hopefully just going to get a fat ticket or soemthng.

i thought imade myslef pretty clear but here we go again.

so me and m friend joe and steve were at a party. Me and Joe had weed but steve didn't. So we arrive at this keg in the woods and within minutes everyone is yelling cops. so we run in the bushes and wait for a while and then decid to walk back to our car. we made it in the car and were about to leave when a policeman shines his light in the window. He sees the driver Steve and says some bs about how he's drunk, but none of us were drunk just high. So he makes im get out of the vehicle and take a breathilizer. Then he opens my door and says,"smells like reefer in her" Stupidly we say no but that doesn't matterbecause 2 seconds later we were searched. I had a pip and about .3 gram. M freind joe had about 3 grams. So the officer cuffs all of us and starts reading us are rights and calls in back up. Once back up arrives the police mans boss was there, so the cop that read us are rights explains to him how we complied and didn't give the cops any bs. So they uncuff and say this is a warning don't do it again. WEll aparently they led because i got a phonecall yesterdy which was 7 months after the incident telling me i have a court case andshe gave me the number. I'm 17 but will be 18 in a couple months. The Caseworker said that i'll have to pay a 175 dollar fine and go to drug and alcohol classes. and it will be on my permanent record. If i have a marijuana and paraphenalia charge n my permanent record how badly will that mess up my future? like getting jobs n stuff

Umm, nope, your first post was VERY unclear. It helps when in the second post you actually state what HAPPENED and that you were caught with a pipe AND weed on you
Now, did they take down your full info on scene?
Did they give you ANY paperwork?
If the answer is no to both, I have no clue how there can be charges against you.
Now, when it comes to a job, you will be fine as long as you are looking to work at a gas station or loading dock. Not that typing out on the Internet is a great way to gauge a person's intelligence, but MY GOD, get a clue, your almost 18, you should have a good grasp on the English language and spelling by now. So my advice is fly straight, pay attention in school and quit putting yourself in dumb situations. Chances are this will not go on your perm. file as long as you stay out of trouble and don't violate the conditions the court sets (usually 6 months to a year of not getting in any trouble.) So let this be a wake up and figure out which way you want your life to head.

Thank you for saying that. When I come on here I feel like I am talking to a bunch of idiots. I think you guys/ gals should at least proof read your posts once. Not being able to spell is a problem.

I hope you don't do this when you write important papers.

About your case, I think you could loose your chance for College funding if you are convicted of felony possession..or is it misdemeanor too?.

That might just be in South Carolina.

But anyway, I hope you get it fixed up and get on with your life.

well i dont know about you, but here in canada, 18 is the legal age of majority, and if you are just being summoned now, im going to imagine that by the time it all takes place, you will be 18. the fact remains, though, that you were a minor when you committed this offence, so i dont see how they could put this on your criminal record. here in canada, we have something called the 'young offenders act', where anyone under the age of legal majority who commits a crime, no matter how serious, theyre rights are protected under the act, and so your name can never be revealed to the public, and your entire criminal record is wiped clean when you're 18. in som cases, people as young as 15 or 16 are tried as adults, so the fact that you were 17 when you did this probably dosnt help u. and i am no expert in the ways of the law or anything, but i dont see how the chief of police could tell you you're 'free to go', and then make you pay a fine and go to some rehabilitation a year later out of the blue. if you wanted to argue this case in court or something, i imagine that would definately be a strong point for your case, the fact that the police 'let you off free', that is.

At least someone has the cojones to say this. I have to say it, the GovProp about marijuana affecting intelligence may not be totally true, but I think a lot of STUPID people are out there smoking. Makes us infrequent users embarassed when we are lumped in with the same group.

Ten again ppl who frekrent webboards instead of studing tehir grammar and speling are likely to maek misstakes.

Sometimes I wish there was a minimum age for participating in the agora. In fact, I think there should be a minimum age of 18 for this board, because it not even legal for these kids to smoke cigarettes, and if it were legal, marijuana.

{Flame Extinguished} i wouldnt have even started smoking, and gotten involved in it and become the better person i am today without the help of you and the thousands of others on these boards. when i couldnt figure out when i wasnt getting 'high', or when i had problems or didnt understand one thing or another, this was at times my only place to turn to become more educated. the vast majority of kids and teens on this site are only here to learn and to be educated, not many come here simply for the enjoyment of the site and its services, like im guessing most of you adults do. do you understand what im saying man? telling me that i and many other people like me SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TYPE IN WORDS ON A SCREEN SIMPLY BECUASE YOU BELIEVE WE ARE TOO YOUNG, is the most hypocritical, ignorant thing to say. if you were just 'throwing it up' as a suggestion, then excuse my impatience, but just because me or many other people on these boards might be 14 or 15 or 16 years old dosnt mean that they still arent your peers, as smokers of marijuana, fellow smokers. to me, when u suggest something like that, its like the equivalent of me telling you that you shouldnt be able to smoke marijuana - same principles; you dig?

Chill. I wasn't talking about you. I think perhaps you are a bit more mature than some of the people here, though telling me f*ck you isn't necessarily mature.

People who post calling the police 'stupid f--n pigs' and wondering why they get busted because they were driving around while high give us a bad name.

I think you should also realise that when a post directly follows another, it is not necessarily in reference to the preceeding post. You don't need to take these things so personally.

Perhaps not a minimum age, but a minimum maturity is in order?
