alright, here is the basics: i live in missouri and i'm 17 years old. i was in my car with my friend in a parking lot and someone called the police on us for tokin up. the cops pulled me over when i was leaving and gave me a ticket for "improper lane use by reason of crossing through parking spaces" .. well they searched my car.. (stupid cops said they had "probable cause") and found 3 joints. so i got a possession charge also. i have court in a few weeks and i'm wondering what you guys think i will get.. fines, probation,k etc. thanks i really appreciate it!

Here is a link that might be useful. I'm not sure how it would differ since your are a underage, but it's good info to know. Missouri has horrible possesion laws, I'm glad to be in Ohio. What was their probable cause?

OMFG.

Did you give them permission to search, or did they just announce they had probable cause and start searching?

I'm guessing the tip was their probable cause. Typical first offenses are probation and fines but it will vary depending on your area. Jail time is unlikely.

(Just keep in mind that the figures from that site are maximum sentences)

yeah the tip was their probable cause.. and i asked if they had a warrant and the officer said he would have my car towed until he had a warrant if i wanted him to.. and yeah instead of backing up i went straight through the parking spot in front of me.. everyone does though! .. its bull****..

Oh, their ticketing you for that would not have happened under normal circumstances... They gave you that as a reason to stop you, which is tricky, but they can get as tricky as they want when it comes to someone they want to search.

Can I have a DUH. When will people learn not to do things in the public eye. Everyone has beat this to death, don't do dumb things in public. And another thing: The stupid one was you, and if you were smoking up in the car, I'm sure it smelled ripe, so between the tip and their observation, yup, they have PC and there is no need for a warrant.
