Hey guys,

I know that people say it would be impossible to tax pot if it were legal, and that people would continue to buy it from dealers, but why? I mean, dealers probably wouldn't sell it, because of the drop in demand... And, personally, I'd feel better about buying pot from a store, then buying from a dealer. Who knows what they put in there? Also, what if the government could produce it cheap, and sell it for about 5 bucks a gram, or less? Then with tax, it'd still be cheaper than the dealer, and the choice would be obvious.


I haven't done a lot of research on this, so don't think I'm trying to state a clear point of mine, because I'm just asking, isn't it a possibility? Please, post your thoughts. Are my rantings just an optimist pipe-dream, or is there some reality that may emit from them?

im diggin the 5 bucks a gram thing, but i would highly doubt that low.

Yes, it is a possibility. In fact, maybe people agree with you that pot can be taxed, so I don't know who you've talked to that has said pot can't be taxed. . if taxed, there would certainly be a very very low black market, and very few sellers.

Why not? An experienced grower told me that he can produce an OZ of White Widow for right around 16 bucks. That comes out to be about FIFTY SEVEN cents a gram. At a price of 5 bucks per gram, thats still about $4.40 in sheer profit off of every gram sold. With a large scale operation, the profit margins would be even HIGHER.

With the lighting, nutrients etc. And then if this was a high scale operation that sa lot of money going just towards that. Not to mention hiring a staff and having to pay them, packaging, advertisements, and then taxed.
I don't think it would ever become an extremely low price.

$5-10 for a gram of KB, I could see that happening, but I don't see much cheaper than that.

Exactly....the $5 gram price was what i was referring to. Ric said he doubted it would ever be that low. In reality, theres no reason whatsoever that it couldn't be. Lighting is a fixed expense....once its bought, its good for several crops. Nutes aren't that high priced either. AS for advertising, I think quality weed would sell itself. You don't see billboards advertising it now, do you? yet, thousands of dollars exchange hands daily in the underground market for weed. In reality, theres absolutely NO reason why the governemnt COULDN'T grow good weed and sell it at 5 bucks a gram, while still making a tidy profit. Whether or not they actually WOULD is another question entirely. however, the 5 per gram price really isn't out of reach by any means. Just because we pay 20 per gram in some places doesn't mean thats in any way reflective of the actual costs associated with growing it. The majority of that 20 bucks is a 'risk tax" asscessed by the growers and dealers.....after all, if it wasn't grossly profitable, why would anyone make a living selling an illegal substance?

Plus who wouldn't want to buy a lot if it was kb for 5 bucks a gram. 140 dollar ounces, that sounds good to me.

They Tax Medical Marijuana at least they are required to in some parts of cali, and for the ones that didn't are gonna have to pay hella taxes come april 15th.

Not only is the cost of growing cheap compared to many other products,but you can also make has with the leaves!!!!!

I'd definately grow my own!

I hate to say it but if the price on pot dropped, i think that the amount of pot alot of people smoke would increase ten fold. But hey im not complaining about that
