Default work place drug testing

What a sad state of affairs that so many of us are having to worry about being drug tested by our employers and as a result are having to greatly curtail if not completly stop our use of the herb ( how I miss it). The police can't give me a drug test just because I "might" be doing drugs, how in heavens name can my employer???

Default Police vs. your empolyer

Because the police represent the government, and the government can not arbitrarily search a citizen for anything, including drug use, unless there is reasonable clause.
That is; until Dubyah and his little Right-Wing puppet-master, Ashcroft, have completely eviscerated the US Constitution.
However, I digress.
Your employer, as opposed to the police, is a private enterprise, and, with the exception of outright slavery, can pretty much demand whatever the hell they want from you, including a polluted sample of your urine.
I passed my piss test with a vial of "Urine-Luck"; however, I had also not smoked any weed for almost exactly four weeks, so I don't know which tactic allowed me to pass the test.
By the way, that was almost 9 years ago. I am still employed with the same, very large company; have recieved higher-than-normal raises every year; am highly valued; constantly asked for advice; appreciated for my humor and honesty, and have survived 3, very large, lay-off cycles. And I have smoked weed nearly every night that whole period of time.
That sounds like bragging, but I only use it as an example that one can be a "pot-head", AND a valuable, productive member of society.
Now; where's my Pink Floyd, "Dark Side of The Moon" CD????

Does your employer care? My boss has known I smoke weed since the day I started my job. The regional manager of the store I work at has known since he overheard two other employees talking. Guess what? Still no drug test!

A friend's boss left a message for her, beginning 'you really smoke too much weed'. She still has her job and hasn't been tested, either.

Of course, we're both teenagers working minimum wage jobs where drug testing would cause half the employees to be fired, but still...is testing really that widespread?

Default workplace drug testing

From the posts I've seen here it seems it is becoming more wide spread everyday. I have worked for this company for 15 years and never thought they would drug test. Even tho we are one of the top 10 small drug chains in the U.S. the company, untill recently , was run with a small family business mentality, that is untill they they brought in some head honcho from some other larger chain to run things. It used to be a great place to work where the employees really mattered but that is changing more and more every day. I only have about 5 or 6 years left before I can retire, I just hpoe I can hold out till then
