While this isn't exactly about PYR, it is specifically about this forum, and I am not too familiar with the other forums. So here's my observation, and if mods want to move it, that's fine...

Out of the 25 threads on page one of this forum:

5 (20%) specifically mention smoking mj at school
15 (60%) posters say in their post or their profile that they are <21 yrs old

Many of those <21 also said they were or appeared to be <18. Now, obviously this is a small sample size (so the chance of the sample mean being close to the population mean is low), but doesn't this say something about your average mj user? I see two possibilities:

1) School-aged children are the biggest users of mj.
2) School-aged children just get caught much more frequently, and therefore they are the ones on PYR.

My personal suspicion is that BOTH of these are true. But, it would be interesting to see the age make-up of other forums on mj.com. Anyway, just throwing something out there for thought and/or discussion (and to use as evidence the next time i'm in heated debate ).

Well it stands to reason that because of the fact that young people like to smoke dope (weed,ganja,spliff.etc,etc)that there would be a lot of young people visiting this site.

Also , typically young people like to tell all there friends about things like Marijuana .com; So you get allot of young people that no each other .

This will occur on any site that's about (the ALL MIGHTY HERB )

1) Sometimes I wonder about this too. I'll look into it and try and find information about it. What a wonderful job our current drug policy is doing if there are really more school-age children smoking pot than adults.

2) I figure this is true for a couple of reasons.

a) There are more minors posting in PYR about getting caught than adults. Also, I think in general the younger people outnumber the older people here at CheapTalk.

b) They do something risky/dangerous such as bringing pot or "paraphernalia" to school (which you really shouldn't be doing in the first place), or they might hotbox a car in such a way that the police can easily spot it.

c) They cannot smoke in their homes because their parent's don't approve of pot for whatever reasons. So they're forced to go out into the world and smoke outside for example, thus putting them at a greater risk of getting caught. If you smoke in your own house, 99.9% of the time you will be fine (of course there can be exceptions to this e.g. apartments). It's much safer to smoke at home than outside, but they really don't get to choose that.

Let me ask you this. When you say school-age children, do you mean people in middle school, high school, or college (or maybe even all of them)? Because the age of people in college can vary greatly.

im 18 so i guess i fall into the younger people catagory. I think its just younger people take more risks, and there are more young people smoking pot then older people.

I'm 17 and i got caught too. The reason why i got caught was cause i was outside, and in the house is waaaaaaaay more safe, and of course my parents aren't gonna let me do that, so I have no choice but to smoke outside.

This is a noticable trend.

What myself and many other members here have been trying to do is educate the younger, inexperienced members on the risks involved in such an activity as smoking pot. When we say that it's stupid to smoke at school, we really mean it, not in a condescending manner, but in a way that we hope people will realize that you need to use this time for education. There's lots of time to get high, after school, on the weekends, all summer.

I do realize that many younger people don't have the option of smoking at home, but there are better places than in a car, or in well travelled places. Doing any activity where there is more of a police presence will increase your risk. A car filled with teenagers, whether they are toking up or not is very noticable to a cop. There's other dangers present, such as inexperience in driving, and an increased risk of stupid activities.

My goal in participating in these forums is twofold: I want to legalize pot in North America, and I want to ensure that in the meantime, people can continue this activity with the smallest amount of risk. Really, I would like to see the PYR forum used the least. I don't like to see any of the members here get a criminal record, regardless of how they came about getting it.

I'm still in High School. I think it's more widespread for teenagers and younger people because we're bored. Honestly, that's how I started smoking. I was bored, weed was there so I smoked it. People start for many reasons, that was just mine.

I'm not stupid enough to smoke DURING school. I actually don't know personally many people who do that. I know of a few, but not many. I reserve smoking dope for after 7pm and on weekends. Most of my friends have set up similar restrictions for themselves, too.

Parents not allowing their kids to smoke at home is a big problem. My mom won't let me. So I go elsewhere. Behind churches, anywhere slightly hidden. Not in my car, though. I don't want it to stink.
