You all seem pretty concerned over an extremely seldom used practice. It's not worth all that work for what would be, in most cases, a misdemeanor possession charge.

Also, I notice nobody has brought up an obvious problem with listening in on cordless/cell phones: identification.

On the tap of a hard phone line, we KNOW it is coming from your house. It's a fact. By doing it over the air, I have the added, and not insignificant, task of proving it was your phone, not your neighbors. Forget all the voice analysis crap you see on TV, that kind of expense and time would be utterly ridiculous to use unless you were moving some major weight.
