Hello,

I think I am turning into a pretty paranoid person. Now I am not feeling to safe talking over the phone with my friends. So here are some questions. Also I live in New Jersey.

1. Is there any way to tell if my phone is tapped?

2. Under what circumstances do the police need to tap my phone line?

3. How do I get rid of some of this paranoia? Hehehe.

Well, one way to get rid of the paranoia is to stop smoking, but that would suck. My friend was dealing a while ago and his phone was tapped after he was caught. The only way they can tap your phone is if they get a court order i think and they have to tell you it's tapped. I found this out through a friend so I'm not 100% sure...

There are cheap electronic devices that detect cheap bugs, expensive ones to detect the better ones and nothing (available to) you will find to detect the best bugs available. So it's a matter of who is bugging you?

There has to be a court order and, in a lot of places, they are difficult to get. Generally, LE has to provide PC that evidence exists and that it can't be obtained by other means. They also have definate time periods.

All of our phones are tapped....as are our email communications.

Well, I don't know if the coverage is quite 100%, but it's definitely enough to be scarry.

Not only tapped, but connected to voice recognition software that converts it to text, searches it for certain key words of interest (president, bomb, etc.....and who knows, maybe also weed, coke, etc...), then flags messages with those key words for further investigation by a person. All of this is done constantly, automatically, and indiscriminately.

Beware the government...

The program you are thinking of (word recognition) is on overseas calls...........since they are bounced off of satellites. To intercept a call from your house to the guy across town, it takes a tap in the "wire" and that means a court order.

That's what they want you to think....

Think about it...are they really going to disclose all of the information about the system to the general public? Just like war planes.... we didn't know about the stealth until decades after they had it. Just imagine what they have right now that we wont find out about for another 30 years.

It's always a good idea to assume your enemy is more powerful than you have reason to believe.

Yeah, it's real easy for me to imagine why they wouldn't tell those of us that were members of a federal task force that they could get all the info we wanted.
