Cool The Law

We live in a land where laws govern us in order to create a more perfect form of government, and promote equality among all men. That sounds pretty good, huh? I always thought that's what we were supposed to have, but I have come to realize that if these were laws that were applied equally and fairly to all, we would not have the unbalanced slice of America we see represented by our prison population.

The law is not working anymore. We can see it every day in the workings of our Judicial system. Money is the determining factor now. A great defense to any crime can now be bought and a criminal set free, even knowing that he is guilty as sin, ( case in point, OJ ). Why can we, as simple marijuana smokers, see this so clearly and no one else complains?

It must be simple, and it is. We are the ones who are deprived our rights at every turn. We are the ones who the "No-Knock" warrants were issued for. We're the ones who are deprived the simple right of self determination without harm to others. And we are the ones who have felt the wrath of a nation and it's legal system that has lost it's one great ideal......Freedom!

Freedom to make a simple choice about what I consume. Freedom to meet and join others who believe the things I do. Freedom to be safe in my home, my person and my property. All the things I was taught in school. All the things I was told were set in stone and would never change and it would be that way because we had the Constitution and the Bill of Rights to keep it that way.

I got out of school though. I began to interact in a society that didn't come thru on my school boy visions, and the anger began to build. I can't be the only one who see's these things and doesn't feel the need to change it, I thought. There have to be others who have seen the way things are and have the will to do something.

I started smoking herb. The incredible, mellow feeling it handed me made me realize the biggest fault of our present society was the laws that we have created that are enforced to the fullest against PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT CRIMINALS! I had finally realized that we needed desperate change. Our schools are staffed by underpaid teachers and our kids use the wrong, old books because they don't have the funds to buy new ones. When we are asked for money to help the schools, people say the same thing everytime, "I give them enough money already~! What the hell are they doing with it?" These same people will see a drug bust in the paper and say, "Good job, boy's, even though you wasted the kids free lunch money and the money for the new buses with seat belt's, you got your man!".

I love the concept of the law, and the law when it is equally applied. But the concept has been eclipsed by the dollars of special interest groups, and in our case, the ugly head of racial hatred was used to create laws that were meaningless in thought but horrid in their application.

These laws, passed with hatred and the almighty dollar as their basis, have crippled a nation and are continuing to waste away it's resources that are so desperately needed in order to form the more perfect society that our forefathers envisioned. As long as these laws against the usage of a simple plant are allowed to continue their devastating assault on our society, we will always be just that much short of, "We The People......"

I just noticed this this morning but it was posted over a week ago. I guess that's the disadvantage of the "New Posts"....some things will fall through the cracks and never be heard of again....

Very good writing ded. We need more of it, from more people. The kind of prose that everyone can find a bond with and agree with, even if they're not stoners.

I don't know, perhaps you're using sarcasm here, you might need to reread Ded's post Viper Ded was pointing out the fact that our tax dollars are being wasted on the senseless enforcement of marijuana prohibition policies and laws, monies that would be far better spent in our schools. He goes on to berate those who consider the policing and punishment of weed smokers to be more important, more deserving of our tax dollars than the adequate funding of this countrys public school system. Funding which would supply what I consider to be the most basic of necessities, such as updated text books, adequate pay for teachers and seat buckles in school buses.
Billions of tax dollars are being pumped into the war on weed, into this countrys penal system to be able to deal with the hundreds of thousands of people who year after year are, IMO, unjustly labled and punished as criminals. A writer of an article I read a couple days ago coined a phrase by calling the US the "Incarceration Nation". Our population represents approx. 5% of the worlds population, yet our incarceration rate represents 22% of those incarcerated worldwide "Land of the free" my ass As a country, we need to get our priorities straightened out and I think Ded has pointed that out very well. Great post Ded

yup good post ded.

I was just telling someone, it sucks bieng labeled a criminal ( with my record) just because I smoke MJ.

If I (the public) would've had more money and better connections the charges might've been lessened or dropped, shows how well the justice systems works.

I was just messing around. Great reading dedbr. However, why do all of us have to have seatbelts but there aren't any in school buses?

Cool

Ya know, every year for a long time I went to school board meetings and asked that same question and got the same answer every time, "We don't have the money." Why? Because we couldn't get a school tax passed.

The thing that really pisses me off is the sheriffs department just got a state grant of almost half a million dollars to combat the meth problem, while our children don't even have their own books for their classes. When class is over they leave the textbooks on the desk for the next class to come and use.......

That is a very serious problem. They will use the money to arrest more people and put them in jail, and not one fucking dime for drug education or rehab. We have some people in charge who really don't have a clue. Or their just too damn greedy to care.......
