I see a lot of people keep their stashes in locked containers that require either a key or a pass-code.

Is it true that police can't search those unless a K9 dog sniffs it and gets excited?


Also, is it illegal to wrap wet towels around fire detectors in college dorms? I think its considered tempering which could be illegal, but its not like anyone can find out...

Why would the police be there? Do you live on a college campus that is a private institution that has made rules that you would be violating by smoking?

That would be some important questions. I could help a lot more if you would just be a little more specific.....

As far as the lock box or safe? If they ask you and you refuse, and they are looking for herb, you just told them where it was. Then you will probably see a dog, plus maybe the college would give them permission to search because legally it's their property, right? Not the box itself, but the dorm room your in. These are all thing to consider, bro.

As far as the wet towel, wouldn't it be simpler to just pull the battery and put it back in?

Maybe the best advice to you would be to find a better spot to toke up and stay safe........

Yeah, no smoking allowed, not even incense.

Yes, I understand that if you refuse then they know whats in the locked box, BUT isn't it still safer? Often times cops just won't call their K9 dogs on you. This happened to a few friends of mine. They refused to open and cops just let them go.

I don't know why, but cops don't always call their K9 dogs even if they are pretty damn sure you got some weed. In fact I haven't seen any K9 dogs with cops in my state at any point.

No... first time was in the fields. In dorms there are SO many people who do it and none were ever caught.

Doing it outside is dangerous.

My point was that you already got off with a slap on the wrist once, now it seems that you are not only ungrateful for that, but you are pushing your luck. I would bet that campus police already are looking out for you, and if you were to be caught again I don't imagine the school would be very happy that you figuratively told them to fuck off. Not to mention, you don't want a drug charge on your REAL record.

If the officers already have probable cause to be confducting a search. that safe is only going to be a minor annyance to them. They will ask you nicely to open it, and if you refuse....they can gain entry using any method they have at their disposal. If they are ALREADY searching the room, that safe isn't going to offer a bit of protection. If they think you have something to hide, they will most likely go after it usuing whatever menas is at thie r disposal. If the safe really was "off-limits" to a cop's search, don't you think every drug dealer/user in the world would jsut put their illegal substances in the safe at all times?

Well its good to know. From experience, one of my friends had a safe and refused to open it. He pretended to blush and get real nervous and said "There's a sex toy in there" and almost had a panic attack (as if from embarrassment). Cops left it alone...

Me and God knows how many more kids... There are 35,000 students on campus and school survey showed that 75% have at least tried weed once in their life time.

This is how it happens - if you do something stupid, you will get busted. I found out that somebody DID call cops on us in the field and thats why police officer said "I can't just do nothing about this". I saw a guy getting handcuffed for weed once and the cop said "You should thank your resident adviser, we don't even care for this."

Cops are quite tolerant, its random dumb people who narc on you!

Second, I haven't smoked and possessed since the incident. I am asking WHAT IF questions so that I know the right information and can truly take full responsibility of my actions.

I never asked anyone to get personal with me or my actions...

So what would stop someone from calling and saying the hallway where your dorm is wreaks like weed? The cops will show up, it will be a similar situation as before, and it will be strike two. Ever think of just maybe, not smoking at school, where you are very susceptable to being caught(again) and/or putting a major dent in your life?



Ahh, no. Some are tolerant. Others take great pride in arresting "dopers". I wouldn't rely on the possibility that you will be sent a tolerant cop.



Commendable, but if you wanted to "truly take full resposibility for your actions", then you would be on probation or whatever it is with your pal you got caught with.

In fact, I'm disappointed that you were rewarded for lying, and your friend punished for demonstrating integrity.


Well, you seem to think that you're untouchable because of technicalities. Not to mention the fact you narrowly escaped punishment(by lying) and it doesn't seem to phase you.

But, on an unrelated note, TM's post is dead on. You have virtually no right to privacy in a college dorm.
