I think that person was probably overly suspicious to TSA and LEO @ the gate. nervous people carry bombs too ya know.

I still agree w/ bart and darq, small amounts , crotched are virtually fool proof. Meaning, don't be a fool

I've done my bit at the TSA checkpoints in small and large airports, worked behind the airline counter, on the ramp, in the hangar.... You're still good crotching it

This thread has a lot of usefull info, thanks to all who contributed to it. After going thru every single page, I still have a few questions.

Is the "crotch method" still considerd the best method, even after all the technology that has recently been installed at airports?

Is everyone 100% certain that the puffer machines do not detect MJ, and only detect explosives?

Any advice for the Ft. Lauderdale Int'l Airport, do they have the x-rays machines at that particular airport?

All these question pertain to flying within the U.S., NOt internationally.

Let's review - Are you young and is this the FIRST time through an Airport Screening? Leave your weed at home and experience it once if you have ANY doubts. The Behavioral Detection Specialists are looking for YOU!

The whitey-tightey method is safe and easy, provided you are only taking a personal quantity - my recommendation is to place less than a half ounce between two pair of brief style underwear near your private parts. This is not taping it to your leg or thigh - but near your taint if you know what I mean. And you will have spare underwear when they lose your luggage.

You have given consent for an administrative search for the security of the aircraft and the TSA screener is not a Law Enforcement Officer - to calibrate and use the "puffer" machine to search for drugs would be a violation of your constitutional rights because that is searching for criminal activity and you were not notified and consenting. Can puffer machines find weed or drugs? Yes, and they are used in many prisons just for that purpose

There are x-ray machines in all airports - but if you are referring to backscatter x-ray used to look at people, it is currently not an issue as it is optional and a hand search is available.

No particular airport is different than another - except the TSA cannot seem to standardize the process and a lot of screener's free-lance with the policies. Some airports want you to remove all your electronics, other just your laptop, by way of example.

A couple of key points - the ID check (which they do with a printer's lope and blacklight) is a key point to determine if you are going to get secondarily searched (aside from the quad-S [SSSS] when the airline prints your boarding pass). Smile and kiss this screener's ass.

And retaliatory secondary screenings occur if you look sideways at any screener or generally act slow. Keep you head down and avoid the radar, read the rules on the TSA site for prohibited items and the 3-1-1 War on Liquids, packing accordingly. Practice at home preparing for the screening; practice taking off your shoes, belt, and coat (pick these items for ease of doffing and donning), travel with empty pockets, be quick about getting your laptop out of it's case and in it's own tub,. Really practice this process several times at home on your dining room table, seriously!

I throw around some BS interacting with these goons - telling them stuff like "hey, nice to see you again" and "you guys are always so friendly, thanks for keeping us safe". The fact that the whole thing is a stupid effing waste of time has to be set aside to get through routinely. They will soon have new uniforms and the number of stripes on the shoulder boards identifies their rank - go for the lowest rank or the trainee, they are not as bitter as the others become over time.

Every US airport has x-ray machines, excepting perhaps private ones. The location of the airport has no bearing.

the only other advice i can give about FLL airport is that they have those behavior detection people...he questioned me on my way home about where I was going and basically encouraged chit chat( how did i enjoy florida?) for like 2 minutes...he was definitley TSA, but i'm not sure he was just being friendly or had a friendly demeanor...but to me i didnt feel as if he was probing and i had nothing on me anyways...

also i've seen dogs...walking about the terminal with an officer...i dont know if it was a drug or bomb sniffing dog...just giving u a heads up

and they send every couple of people through the air puffing machine...they sent my mom through it, who was standing in front of me...with me they just sent me through the xray...

i hopes this helps...i know it just reminded me of things to be careful for when i travel next week

PLEASE stop and think - when you say "i don't know" it is not doing anyone here any good. Post what you know for a fact, and trust others will know if you ask. They do not use drug dogs on domestic passengers in the United States. It would be a violation of your constitutional rights, the same as if they went into the supermarket and randomly searched customers. Youth are obsessed with drug dogs - you are not helping.

So what? Those machines are specifically for explosives and have nothing to do with taking weed on a domestic flight. And if the general public knew the technical issues those machines have experienced, they would be astonished at their failure rate.

Posting things you don't know does not help. Good Travels.

my comments were directed to 420 time in the sense that he asked for "Any advice for the Ft. Lauderdale Int'l Airport"...

and if i were in his shoes i would want someone to point out these factors regardless if its known or not ( just to have an idea of whats out there )....for an unexperienced traveler with goods, i believe any information would be useful...especially when its a specific airport they are questioning ...but I havent read anything about FLL on this thread...if theres something pls point it out...

I'm looking to bring some herbs home with me for spring break but I am kind a freaked out. I would put it in my underwear, and look as clean-cut as possible, also it is a domestic flight. If I get searched or a dog smells me, can I just deny it the entire time, or are they eventually going to actually look in my underwear. Also, if I do get caught, what happens to me? Do I miss my flight, and how bad are the legal consequences? Thanks for the help.

honestly, if you get caught, you shouldn't be worried about missing your flight, but rather the 6 month sentence for possession ..
