| Hi, I've read all the advisements against international transport and completely understand that the best way not to get caught is not to take anything, period. However... My fiance and I will be traveling to Europe this summer. We fly out of LAX, have a layover in Canada and will fly into the Leonardo Da Vinci Airport in Rome. We are considering taking a very small amount (4 - 5 joints' worth) with us. Our trip coincides with my cycle, and this is what we considered doing: 1. Vacuum sealing the package; 2. Hiding the package inside a space made inside a maxi pad; 3. Taping a porous baggie filled with coffee beans to my thigh. Also, my fiance and I are both very clean cut and will be traveling with his 60 year old parents. Definitely not stereotypical smokers. Any input y'all could provide is greatly appreciated. |

| is amusing. Though certainly not amusing enough to make international transport seem like a good idea. Quite a group of thick-headed stoners here, huh? Thanks for your input..I will search other threads for info on obtaining a bit of the goods in Italy. |

| I believe Italy may be one of the European community that has de-criminalized ...someone had a post around here somewhere... Amsterdam is worth a trip though -- the museums are awesome and it is a beautiful place in the spring. Good luck -- check out the Europe Forum Mama Budz | |

| If it's a small amount, they will take it away. Fine you and red flag you. Red Flag a person means that whenever you travel abroad you will be searched. They will also let you know that if you get caught in Italy with illegal substance again you will go to jail for 2 years. I read this in a previous post, not from personal experience. ![]()

| FYI there are at least two things that will cause the Airline to flag you for "extra searches" (on domestic flights): Buying a one-way ticket, or buying your ticket 24 or 48 (Not sure which) hours before your flight. (Possibly only if you buy the ticket online) Either of those and you could get searched, regardless of if you set off the metal detector or not. (This includes pat-downs, carry-on luggage searches, and checked luggage searches. They actually asked me if my checked luggage was locked, because they would need to open it up and search it. And no, I didn't have anything on me, just needed to wait until the last minute to pick up my ticket.) |

| I just went to Cabo and bought the ticket 24 hours before I left. I got through both customs without a search. ![]() |

One way? It may be that both of those things are required for a 100% red flag, maybe one OR the other is only a 50% chance. I can tell you that on 2 out of 2 domestic flights, one-way, with tickets purchased online quite close to the departure date, I was flagged for searches by the airline both times. The searches were nothing major, probably the same as if I'd set off the metal detector a few times. They took me and my luggage to a seperate table (still in view of the main search area), had me take my shoes off, wanded me and patted in the appropriate areas (no gropes) and checked my luggage carefully (taking everything out) That said, I can tell you that they didn't actually check inside my shampoo or anything like that. (Not that there was anything to find.) Forgot to say, buying tickets online close to the departure date may be what flags you. If you get them from a travel agent close to the departure date it may be okay. Or maybe not. It may also be that since you were going through customs they weren't going to flag you for extra searches, since the customs searches are more thorough. I should have said "domestic flights" in my previous post. Remind me to tell you about the time I walked AROUND customs on my way back from Amsterdam. ;> | |

| There is a certain amount of randomness to the "extra search", but Alari has identified some of the factors. One-way tic's, cash purchases, last minute, and having a name similar to one on the "list" can do it. One thing about the TSA methods, they jump on whatever the latest incident was caused by . . . a day late and a few braincells short. Grillmeats offers an important point (he usually does); what you might expect to happen - because that was the way it was on your last flight or at your last airport - isn't going to happen. At my home airport where I casually know all of the TSA staff (and they know me), day to day I experience different performance in their "quality" of effort. So let me mention one more time . . . Domestically, keep the MJ on your person and it is best kept in your underwear. Internationally, I personally do not recommend smuggling MJ. |
