Default New Technology prevents the tried and true method.

Tadar Scanners are the next generation of airport scanners, that see through clothes. These devices are not yet used but certainly will be incorporated withing the next year.

With these devices, putting it in your undies might not work so well.

Quote:
The scanner uses 3mm microwaves to scan people as they walk through a booth. Its sensors detect thermal energy emitted by the body as well as microwaves being reflected from objects. Clothes become transparent, but denser objects, such as plastic explosives or other weapons, show up clearly against the background thermal image of the body. Everyday items like door keys and money will also be clearly visible as will liquids and non metallic items.

Are you serious? Are they really going to be allowed to look at people naked now?

Bart knows his plane trips and airports. He's always keeping us updated with the new ways that are coming on the market for Homeland Security. I trust his knowledge base, and I know he's a stand up person.

Default Simple do's and don'ts

Thanks Grillmeats, you are too kind. I learned my lesson the hard way and want to help others here never suffer the embarassment. If you follow the link in the thread they have photos of the "nakedness", blurred in the appropriate places. And I would remind you that this is the same TSA that felt up millions of women's breasts, typically bigguns - using the back of their hand so as to avoid "sexual" context. Think Al Bundy in a uniform and you have the average TSA employee.

As for using tin foil, you don't travel much do you - and you absolutely know nothing about dogs and their ability to smell. Foil will set off the magnometer and the silly little wand that they use (it finds chewing gum wrappers and a good thing too, because it could be that explosive chewing gum). Foil does nothing to prevent the properly trained dog from smelling it, and secondary contamination will surely be present.

For domestic travel hide it in you whitey-tighties, in a regular baggie; for international flights don't risk it.

Hey Bart, maybe you should find a way to autopost that one line of info every 7 days or so....You've GOT to be sick of typing it out by now! I'm sure the many first time users that seem oblivious to the search function are glad you are so persistant!

Question

What about brownies, if I take them as a snack on the plane? I am going to Germany in december, so if I bring one or two brownie, eat it on the plane or right before I get on the plane(its a 14 hour flight) hows that work? I hate flying and I am going to need to relax on the flight, and since there is no smoking I'm kind of screwed. Plus It'll help me sleep on the plane. Don't need and for when I get over there, just to help me relax on the flight.

But don't forget to bring an extra brownie for the flight home! If you place the brownie in a lunch sack with maybe a banana and a tuna sandwich, you'll be just fine. There would be some increased risk with it being an international flight and the dogs, but do you feel lucky? I'd feel lucky, anyday.
